Mating faces on dies, moulds and fixtures usually end up being filed by hand, and that takes time. These air filing machines supply the stroke at 3,700 to 9,000 cycles per minute at a tool weight of 0.4 to 1.1 kg, leaving the operator to guide the file.

• Stroke lengths of 4 to 9 mm allow a choice between fine finish and faster removal.

Operating principle

An air motor produces an oscillating linear movement that is transferred to the clamped file. Stroke length and stroke rate together determine how much material comes off per pass. Quoted stroke rates are no-load figures.
