Choosing the right magnifying lamp

Dioptres and magnification

The dioptre value (dpt) describes the strength of the add-on lens. Higher values magnify more but reduce the field of view and working distance. For general visual inspection 3 to 4 dpt are common, while very fine detail benefits from 5 dpt.

ESD and work environment

At electronics workstations, dissipative versions should be used to protect components from electrostatic discharge. Check the ESD marking of the model.

ESD models: for the electrostatically protected area (EPA).
Standard models: for general inspection and workshop tasks.

UV or white light

White-light models are the standard for assembly and rework. UV broadband versions support the inspection of fluorescent coatings, adhesives and markings.
