Fume Extractions
Fume extraction captures flux vapours, fine dust and metal particles where they are generated, before they reach the operator's breathing zone. Besides fume extractors for hand soldering, this section covers laser fume and fine dust extraction as well as units for odours, gases and vapours.
A system consists of the filter unit, the capture element (extraction arm, hood, nozzle or soldering iron extraction), hoses and connectors, and the filter stages from pre-filter to H13/H14 particle filter and activated carbon. Categories are organised by function; the manufacturer is a filter, including ULT, Alsident, Weller, Donaldson Bofa, Ersa, Quick, Oki and JBC.

How to choose Fume Extractions
What matters when choosing: properties, comparison and typical applications.
Technical basics
Pre-filter - M5/F7 filter mats or F9 panel filters retain coarse particles and extend the service life of the main filter.
H13/H14 particle filter - HEPA filters to DIN EN 1822 separate fine dust and metal particles; pre-filters are classified to ISO 16890 or DIN EN 779.
Activated carbon and adsorption - Adsorption filters bind flux vapours, odours and organic compounds and are replaced once saturated.
ESD-safe capture - In the EPA, extraction arms, hoses and nozzles should be conductive, e.g. ESD bench arms with 32 and 50 mm.
Capture close to the source - The shorter the distance between nozzle and solder joint, the more effective the extraction, up to extraction directly at the soldering tip.
