Bandelin - ultrasonic cleaning and ultrasonic homogenising
BANDELIN electronic is a family-run company based in Berlin that has specialised in ultrasonic technology for decades. Its equipment is developed and manufactured in Germany and covers two application areas: the gentle cleaning of parts and instruments, and the disruption, emulsifying and homogenising of samples in the laboratory.
The range spans compact ultrasonic baths, built-in oscillating tanks and powerful probe homogenisers. Under the SONOREX (cleaning) and SONOPULS (homogenising) brands, BANDELIN offers matched generators, transducers, laboratory coolers and accessories, so applications from single-part cleaning to reproducible sample preparation can be implemented cleanly.

Choosing the right Bandelin unit
Cleaning or homogenising?
The first step is the application. For cleaning parts, instruments or labware, the SONOREX ultrasonic baths are the choice - they usually work at 35 kHz and lift contamination gently in the bath. For cell disruption, emulsifying or homogenising of liquid samples, the SONOPULS homogenisers are correct - here a 20 kHz probe is immersed directly into the sample.
Bath size, heating and power control
With SONOREX the choice depends on tank volume and features:
- Volume: from a compact bath up to around 90 L - matched to the size of the items.
- Heating (H/CH): speeds up many cleaning processes; model codes with H or CH denote heated units.
- Power control and degassing: Digiplus DL and Digitec DT give more control for sensitive or stubborn tasks.
Configuring a homogeniser correctly
A SONOPULS system consists of a generator (e.g. GM 4200 / GM 4400), an ultrasonic transducer and a sonotrode. For temperature-sensitive samples, a Labocool lab cooler is recommended, along with a flow cell for continuous work or a sample holder for indirect sonication of several vessels.

Frequently asked questions about Bandelin
What does the SONOREX brand stand for?
SONOREX is BANDELIN's product line for ultrasonic cleaning. It includes ultrasonic baths (e.g. Super RK, Digitec DT, Digiplus DL) and built-in oscillating tanks of the TE series, which mostly operate at 35 kHz and gently clean parts, instruments or labware.
What is the difference between SONOREX and SONOPULS?
SONOREX units are ultrasonic baths for cleaning: the items sit in a liquid-filled tank. SONOPULS units are probe homogenisers in which a 20 kHz sonotrode is immersed directly into the sample to disrupt cells, emulsify or homogenise.
Which Bandelin baths have heating?
Heated models are identified by the code H or CH, for example Sonorex Digitec DT 1050 CH or Digiplus DL 1028 H. The heater warms the cleaning bath and speeds up many cleaning processes. Unheated versions suit temperature-sensitive items.
What is a Labocool lab cooler for?
Labocool is a BANDELIN laboratory cooler that keeps samples or baths at temperature. Homogenising with SONOPULS generates heat; the cooler (e.g. LC 200 for homogenisers, LC 400 for SONOREX baths) prevents overheating of temperature-sensitive samples.
Can Bandelin oscillating tanks be built into my own systems?
Yes. The SONOREX TE oscillating tanks (e.g. TE 1032, TE 1058.2, TE 1059) are built-in ultrasonic tanks at 35 kHz that can be integrated into custom cleaning systems or production lines. The matching generator is connected separately.
