ESD-Socks

ESD socks form a critical conductive path between the wearer's skin and ESD footwear, ensuring the full body-to-ground system meets the <3.5 × 10⁷ Ω total resistance requirement defined in IEC 61340-5-1. Without a low-resistance sock layer, even certified ESD footwear cannot guarantee consistent charge dissipation - surface resistances of 10⁵ - 10⁷ Ω are achieved through conductive carbon or stainless-steel fibres woven into the fabric at 1 - 10 % fibre content. Properly specified ESD socks reduce body voltage to <100 V during normal walking, protecting components with sensitivity levels down to Class 0 (<250 V) per ANSI/ESD S20.20.
