Choosing the right Statech product

Type S or Type B?

AstraStat Type S is the spray can for individual parts: the hardener is already in the can, one can covers 1.5 to 2 m² and the surface can be handled after 2 hours. AstraStat Type B is the set of 4.8 kg base paint and 0.8 kg hardener for lab benches, steel cabinets, trolleys and GRP parts. It is rolled or sprayed, suitable for cleanrooms up to ISO class 5 and weatherproof outdoors.

Preparing the substrate

  • Metal, laminate, wood, PVC, GRP: AstraStat adheres directly after cleaning and sanding.
  • Smooth plastics such as ABS, PA, PC, POM or PP: apply the HP-S adhesion primer first, it can be overcoated after about 10 minutes.
  • The primer stays translucent silver, so primed areas are visible to the naked eye.

Verifying the result

Both AstraStat coatings keep the surface resistance permanently below 3.5 x 10⁷ ohms, measured to IEC 61340-2-3 and independent of humidity. Whether a coated surface, a floor or a bench mat is within the limit can be checked with the STATEST FLOOR and the circular electrode to IEC 61340-4-1.

Personnel grounding at the EPA entrance

The STATEST PERSONAL tests wrist strap and footwear in one pass, shows the measured value and the source of a failure, and can release a door or turnstile via a volt-free contact. For ESD garments there are clamp electrodes to IEC 61340-4-9.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Statech Systems

Who is Statech Systems?

Statech Systems AG from Eschenbach SG, Switzerland, has specialised in electrostatics and ESD protection since 1991. The company develops and sells ESD materials and is accredited as an inspection body to ISO/IEC 17020. At esd.equipment we stock the AstraStat coatings and the STATEST testers.

What is the difference between AstraStat Type S and Type B?

Type S is a satin 2K PU paint in a 400 ml spray can with built-in hardener for individual parts. Type B is a matt 2K PU conductive coating supplied as a 5.6 kg set, rolled or sprayed, and intended for entire fittings and cleanrooms up to ISO class 5.

Do I need the HP-S adhesion primer?

On smooth plastics such as ABS, PA, PC, POM, PP or PVC, yes: HP-S provides the bonding layer for AstraStat Type S. On metal, laminate, wood and GRP the paint adheres directly after cleaning and sanding.

How dissipative is the coating?

AstraStat coatings keep the surface resistance permanently below 3.5 x 10⁷ ohms, measured to IEC 61340-2-3. The value does not depend on humidity because the conductivity lies in the coating itself rather than in an antistatic agent.

What does the STATEST FLOOR test?

The STATEST FLOOR is an ohmmeter for floors, bench mats, chairs and trolleys with five LED ranges from 5 MOhm to 1 GOhm at 100 V DC. A complete workstation is checked in less than 30 seconds.
