ESD grounding systems maintain the body voltage of personnel below 100 V by providing a controlled discharge path with a resistance of 10¹ Ω (1 MΩ series resistor per IEC 61340-5-1) — preventing electrostatic discharge events that can destroy components sensitive to as little as 100 V HBM. Wrist straps deliver a direct, continuous ground connection with a system resistance < 3.5 × 10⁷ Ω, while foot grounders and heel straps provide mobile grounding rated to < 3.5 × 10⁷ Ω in combination with ESD flooring (IEC 61340-4-3).
Our ESD grounding systems category covers 276 products across wrist straps, coiled cords, foot grounders, grounding boxes, grounding bricks, and supplementary grounding material — all selected for compliance with IEC 61340-5-1, EN 61340-5-1, and ANSI/ESD S20.20. Every item is sourced from established EPA-certified manufacturers and is suitable for integration into a fully documented Electrostatic Protected Area (EPA).
Wrist Straps vs. Foot Grounders vs. Grounding Boxes - ESD Personnel Grounding Comparison
| Criterion | Wrist Straps | Foot Grounders | Grounding Boxes | Coiled Cords |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Application | Seated / benched operators | Standing / mobile operators | Multi-operator workstation hub | Connecting strap to ground point |
| System resistance | < 3.5 × 10⁷ Ω | < 3.5 × 10⁷ Ω (with ESD floor) | 1 MΩ per outlet | 1 MΩ in-line resistor |
| Applicable norm | IEC 61340-5-1 / ANSI ESD S1.1 | IEC 61340-4-3 | IEC 61340-5-1 | IEC 61340-5-1 |
| Monitoring option | Continuous / wireless monitor | Periodic tester recommended | Integrated LED / buzzer alert | Inline tester / periodic check |
| Operator mobility | Limited (tethered, ca. 1.8 m cord) | High (no cord required) | Stationary hub | Up to ca. 3 m extended |
| Test interval | Daily or continuous | Each use | Quarterly functional test | Daily visual + periodic ohm test |
| Typical use case | SMT / PCB assembly, rework | Warehouse, incoming inspection | Multi-person EPA workstation | Connecting bench mat or strap |
| Connector types | 10 mm snap, banana plug | Floor contact strip | 4 mm banana, 10 mm snap | 10 mm snap / alligator clip |
Typical application areas: Electronics manufacturing and SMT assembly (IEC 61340-5-1, IPC-A-610), semiconductor fabrication and wafer handling (SEMI S1/S2, SEMI E187), medical device production (ISO 13485, IEC 61340-5-1), automotive electronics and supplier quality (VDA 6.3, IATF 16949), aerospace and defence systems assembly (AS9100, ANSI/ESD S20.20), laboratory and R&D environments requiring documented EPA setups.
