Safety boots

Shoes

ESD safety boots and ankle-high safety shoes (MID) close the upper above the ankle and support the ankle joint, whereas a low shoe ends below it. The dissipative sole ties the wearer into the personnel grounding system: the shoe itself measures between 10⁵ and 10⁹ Ω to EN ISO 20345 and therefore counts as antistatic, while the ESD verification comes only from the system resistance person-shoe-floor of less than 3,5 x 10⁷ Ω to DIN EN 61340-5-1. Class S3 versions with a water repellent upper, penetration resistant midsole and cleated outsole are the common design, alongside lined models with CI cold insulation. The category holds 22 models in 241 sizes from Atlas and PUMA Safety in sizes 34 to 53 and widths 8 as well as 10 to 14.

Two separate resistance figures - shoe 10⁵ to 10⁹ Ω to EN ISO 20345, system person-shoe-floor < 3,5 x 10⁷ Ω to DIN EN 61340-5-1
High upper, supported ankle - ankle-high MID models and boots reduce the risk of twisting, unlike the low shoe that ends below the ankle
Focus on class S3 - S1 closed heel area, antistatic, energy absorbing heel; S1P adds penetration resistance; S2 adds a water repellent upper; S3 adds penetration resistance and a cleated outsole
EN ISO 20345:2022 edition - appends an S to the class marking (S1PS, S3S) and replaces slip resistance SRC with SR
Widths 8 and 10 to 14 - plus regular and narrow lasts, sizes 34 to 53, lined winter versions with CI

Typical applications: plant assembly and maintenance with ESD requirements on uneven ground; chilled and deep-freeze areas as well as outdoor winter duty calling for CI cold insulation; yard, loading and outdoor storage at electronics manufacturers; site work by service and commissioning staff; test fields and heavy-duty areas with penetration and impact hazards; workplaces with a raised risk of twisting where a supported ankle is required.
