Crimp Dies and Interchangeable Heads
Stripping, Crimping and Cable Processing
Crimp dies and interchangeable heads extend a crimping system plier to further contact systems without buying a separate tool for each one. The die defines the crimp profile and the nest, the base tool provides the leverage and the ratchet lock; the joint itself follows DIN EN 60352-2 and is verified by crimp height, micrograph and pull out force. A die is selected by contact system and contact manufacturer, by cross section range and by the mount of the base tool already in use. The range covers 56 articles from Knipex, together with the matching 200 mm system pliers.
| Die type | Contact system | Profile | Standard or reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wire end ferrule die | insulated and uninsulated ferrules, twin ferrules | trapezoidal or square | DIN 46228 |
| Uninsulated lug die | tubular, compression and crimp cable lugs | indent crimp | DIN 46237 |
| Connector die | butt and compression connectors, heat shrink connectors | indent or roll crimp | DIN 46341 |
| Blade terminal die | open connectors 4,8 and 6,3 mm, flag terminals | roll crimp | blade terminal sizes |
| Data technology die | modular plugs, D-Sub, F connectors, coax | system specific | connector design |
| Automotive and solar die | MQS, Junior Power Timer, MC4 | system specific | contact manufacturer |
Typical applications: prototype and small batch work with frequent changes of contact system; control cabinet building with ferrules and cable lugs on one base tool; network and antenna work with modular, F and coaxial connectors; vehicle and control wiring with MQS and Power Timer contacts; photovoltaic installation with MC4 connectors; on site service and assembly with one case instead of several single purpose pliers.
