Festo piston rod cylinders cover all pneumatic cylinders with an extending piston rod for linear stroke movements. The range is divided into norm-based cylinders (ISO 6432, ISO 15552, ISO 21287), round cylinders for compact installation positions, stainless steel cylinders for corrosive environments, compact and short-stroke cylinders, and multimount and screwed-in cylinders for space-critical applications. Bore diameters range from a few millimetres to several hundred millimetres, with strokes from a few millimetres to over one metre.

Selection is governed by bore size (determining force at a given pressure), stroke, mounting type, environmental conditions, and norm requirement. For standard applications without specific requirements, the ISO 15552 norm cylinder (DNC series) is the most economical choice, as it is supplied by multiple manufacturers in identical geometry. Stainless steel cylinders should be used where cleaning agent contact, food environments, or cleanroom conditions apply. Compact cylinders (ADN, ADVU) reduce axial installation length to a minimum; screwed-in cylinders require only a threaded bore.
