Soldering
Solder pots
Solder pots keep molten solder ready for tinning wire ends, stranded leads and component terminals. The range covers units from Hakko, Weller, Quick and Reeco. The main differences are crucible size and power: from the compact Weller W 101 H with a Ø 17.4 mm crucible and 100 W up to rectangular solder pots with 98 x 121 mm and 600 W. There are also digital units such as the Hakko FX-301B and station-powered pots such as the Weller WXSB-200 for WX stations.

How to choose Solder pots
What matters when choosing: properties, comparison and typical applications.
Selection criteria
| Criterion | What to look for | Example from the range |
|---|---|---|
| Crucible size | Choose the bath surface according to the largest part you need to dip. | Weller W 101 H Ø 17.4 mm, Quick 100-6C Ø 54 mm, Reeco RE-600B 98 x 121 mm |
| Power | Higher power keeps the temperature stable with larger solder volumes and frequent dipping. | Weller WSB 80 with 80 W up to Hakko FX-305-20 with 640 W |
| Temperature range | Lead-free solder requires a higher working temperature than leaded alloys. | Weller WSB 80 50-450 °C, Reeco RE-30B 150-500 °C, Hakko FX-305-20 530 °C |
| Power supply | 24 V pots run from a matching soldering station, mains units operate on their own. | Weller WSB 150 for 150 W stations, Weller WXSB-200 for WX stations, Weller W 101 H 230 V |
| Control and display | Analogue setting is enough for fixed processes, a digital readout helps when alloys change. | Hakko FX-300 analogue, Hakko FX-301B digital, Quick 100-15S with LCD display |
| Crucible surface | A coated crucible is designed for continuous operation with lead-free solder. | Quick 100-4C and Quick 100-6C with titanium coating |
