ESD work chairs

Work chairs

ESD work chairs, ESD stools and ESD sit-stand stools for electrostatic protected areas in electronics production, test bays, laboratories and cleanrooms: 269 models from Bimos, Grendene, meychair, Warmbier, Treston, Reeco, Bosch Rexroth and Throna. The range covers 205 chairs, 52 stools and 12 sit-stand stools with seat heights from 380 to 910 mm. All models are designated as ESD versions to DIN EN 61340-5-1.

Seat height and working height

Adjustment ranges from 380 to 910 mm. The seat sits about 280 to 300 mm below the work surface. At high workbenches the chair needs a foot ring or step.

High ESD work chairs

Base

164 models with castors, 98 with glides. Both are conductive and part of the discharge path, glides keep the chair in place at high workstations.

Mechanism

97 models with synchronous mechanism, 49 with permanent contact, 104 with weight adjustment. For long sitting periods the synchronous mechanism is the usual choice.

Cover

Artificial leather (97) wipes clean, fabric (87) breathes, PU foam (22) and integral foam (21) resist oil and swarf. The cover is also part of the discharge path.

ESD marking

All 269 models are ESD versions. Many series also exist as a standard version that looks identical but does not dissipate charges.

In an EPA the chair is part of the grounding path. Charges flow from the person through cover, mechanism, gas lift and base to conductive castors or glides and on through the dissipative floor. DIN EN 61340-5-1 requires a resistance from seat surface to ground point below 1 x 1010 ohms for seating.

Floor is a prerequisite - without a dissipative floor or floor mat even an ESD chair remains insulated.
Test regularly - dirt and worn castors increase resistance, test as part of the ESD control plan.
Ergonomics - dimensions and adjustability of work chairs are covered by DIN EN 1335.

Electronics production and assembly in the EPA, repair and test stations, laboratories (78 models suitable for lab use) and cleanrooms (29 models, TEXON up to ISO class 3). 24 models are designated as heavy-duty, the highest load capacity in this category is 180 kg.

How do I recognise an ESD work chair?
By the ESD version filter and the DIN EN 61340-5-1 reference in the product description. Standard versions of the same series often look identical but are not suitable for the EPA.
Does an ESD chair work on any floor?
No. Charges are dissipated through castors or glides into the floor. Without a dissipative floor or floor mat the chair remains insulated.
Which seat heights are available?
From 380 to 910 mm. For high workbenches choose series with a wide adjustment range, such as Basic (470 to 910 mm) or Neon (450 to 870 mm).
Are there ESD chairs for cleanrooms?
Yes. 29 models are also designated for cleanroom use, models of the TEXON series up to ISO class 3.
