Shoes

ESD protection

ESD shoes are a mandatory part of the personnel grounding system in EPA zones and close the dissipation path from the body through shoe and floor to earth. Dissipative soles keep the system resistance person-shoe-floor permanently below the limit of 3,5 x 10⁷ Ω to DIN EN 61340-5-1 and prevent the charges that endanger ESD sensitive components. The shoe itself sits in the antistatic range of 10⁵ to 10⁹ Ω to EN ISO 20345; that standard covers antistatic behaviour only and is not an ESD verification on its own. The range is split into ESD clogs and ESD sandals (mules) as open designs, plus safety low shoes with 249 models in 3,521 sizes and safety boots with 22 models in 241 sizes, which add toe and penetration protection to EN ISO 20345. Safety footwear from Atlas, PUMA Safety, uvex, Birkenstock and Vitaform now forms the largest part of this branch, in sizes 34 to 53 and widths 8 as well as 10 to 14.

System resistance < 3,5 x 10⁷ Ω - DIN EN 61340-5-1, dissipation path person-shoe-floor
ESD shoes plus ESD floor - only the combination produces the complete normative path
Shoe 10⁵ to 10⁹ Ω to EN ISO 20345 - this standard proves antistatic behaviour only, not the ESD capability of the system
Protection classes S1, S1P, S2, S3 - S1 closed heel area, antistatic, energy absorbing heel; S1P adds penetration resistance; S2 adds a water repellent upper; S3 adds penetration resistance and a cleated outsole. The EN ISO 20345:2022 edition appends an S (S1PS, S3S) and replaces SRC with SR
Regular verification - measure resistance to ANSI/ESD S9.1 and DIN EN 61340-5-1

Typical applications: SMT production, THT assembly and board testing in certified EPA zones; semiconductor manufacturing and wafer handling with raised particle requirements; repair, service and maintenance areas with ESD duty and foot protection at the same time; goods receipt, order picking and dispatch with forklift traffic; medical device manufacturing with dissipative flooring; audited areas where personnel grounding must be verifiable by measurement.
