The longer the route and the larger the pipe, the more signal has to reach the line. The Leica Ultra 12 W Advanced delivers up to 12 W and transmits that full power on frequencies below 10 kHz through its high output function, which was developed for large directly buried steel pipes and locating over long distances. Direct connection, signal clamp and broadcast induction cover every common coupling method.
Key benefits
- Maximum output of 12 W, so the signal still carries where 5 W runs out on distance or pipe diameter.
- High output transmits 12 W on frequencies below 10 kHz, and lower frequencies travel farther along the line than higher ones while coupling onto neighbouring lines less easily.
- More than 100 selectable transmitter frequencies, and together with an Ultra Advanced locator the AIM application identifies the quietest frequency on the jobsite.
- Four coupling methods in one unit, direct connection, dual output, signal clamp and broadcast induction, plus connection to a live line through the live power adapter.
- Up to 100 hours of operation on ten alkaline D cells and around 80 hours on the lithium ion battery pack, with automatic shutdown after 2, 4 or 8 hours or always on.
- Readouts for current in mA, power in W, impedance in Ohm and voltage in V, so coupling quality is read rather than guessed.
- A built-in circuit breaker shuts the transmitter down if the leads are connected to a live cable.

Applications
Active route locating in civil engineering and network operation, tracing long cable and pipe runs, locating large directly buried steel pipes, line identification through a signal clamp in chambers and cabinets. With the live power adapter the signal is applied to a live line, and a frequency above 8 kHz has to be selected, preferably 29 kHz.
Compatibility
The transmitter works with the Leica Ultra Standard and the Ultra Advanced locator. With an Ultra Advanced locator the wireless link is available as well, so transmitter settings can be changed from the locator. Signal clamps come in 80, 125 and 175 mm, the 125 mm clamp covers 3 kHz to 200 kHz. Cable fault finding requires transmitter firmware v2.0 or higher and locator firmware v6.0 or higher.
Standards, origin and shipping
Conformity to FCC Part 15 and the applicable European directives, protection class IP65 to IEC 60529. In high output operation the unit generates voltages that can be dangerous, so open connections have to be handled accordingly. Shipping weight 3.500 kg, EAN 7640180530527, customs tariff number 8543709099, country of origin USA.
