Drives with guides
Festo drives with guides combine a pneumatic linear actuator and an integrated mechanical guide in a single assembly. Lateral forces are absorbed by the guide element, so the actuator transmits only axial forces and the cylinder is not subjected to bending. The range is divided into drives with guide rods (DFC mini guided cylinders) and drives with slides. Both sub-categories are designed for different load characteristics and installation space requirements.

Guide rod actuators (DFC) are suited to very small bores and compact handling tasks where available space rules out slide actuators. Slide actuators provide higher tipping moment capacity through the wider support base of the profile rail guide and are suited to tooling axes with eccentric loads or larger mounting surfaces.
Typical applications
Typical applications: Gripper and tooling axes in robotics and handling equipment, micro-assembly stations with miniaturised actuator components, infeed and positioning systems with defined footprints, and test rigs with guided lifting movements.
