Choosing the right Pica marking tool
Choose by surface
The surface to be marked is what matters most:
- Dry and wet timber: carpenter's pencil 2H graphite, ANILINE copying pencil or dry&wet 547, forester's chalk PRO.
- Stone and concrete: stonemason's pencil with 10H graphite lead or 10H stonemason refills for the BIG DRY.
- Smooth, oily or rusty surfaces: FOR ALL universal marking pencil, VISOR permanent or GEL signal marker.
- Bores and recesses: Pica INK deep hole marker.
Heat and welding
For marks next to welds and cutting kerfs, soapstone chalk 571 is heat resistant up to 2000 °C. The GEL signal marker withstands temperatures up to approx. 1000 °C.
Lead instead of wooden pencil
DRY and BIG DRY use an automatic lead feed and are refilled instead of sharpened. The BIG DRY takes 2 x 5 mm rectangular leads such as FOR ALL in graphite, red and white, carpenter 2H, stonemason 10H, ANILINE 2.0 or SUMMER HEAT up to 70 °C. For fine scribing, the Fine-Dry with 0.9 mm lead is the right choice.
Sets for each trade
The Master Sets for joiners, plumbers and carpenters bundle the matching markers and refill leads in a nylon case with hook-and-loop closure.
