ECS is a Swiss manufacturer of cleaning solutions headquartered in Pfäffikon, with a site in Berlin. Founded in 1982, the company develops cleaning products for electronics, equipment and automated machines and manufactures in Switzerland and Germany.
The range spans the Urethane Clear and Plastic conformal coatings with matching thinners, contact cleaners, flux remover, freezer spray and compressed gas dusters, through to ELIX cleaning and hand cleaning wipes. Choosing the right ECS product
Conformal coating: Urethane Clear or Plastic
Both coatings insulate populated assemblies and protect them against moisture and aggressive atmospheres:
- Urethane Clear (771): elastic polyurethane film that cross-links chemically while drying, permanent from -40 °C to +120 °C.
- Plastic (770): fast-drying acrylic coating from -70 °C to +100 °C, solderable through and with a UV indicator for layer inspection.
Using the thinner correctly
Each coating has its own thinner, 776 for Urethane and 775 for Plastic. A 1:1 ratio gives thin spray layers with very good levelling, a 3:1 ratio (coating to thinner) builds higher layer thicknesses.
Cleaning before coating
Flux residues prevent the coating from adhering properly. Flux-off removes residues of rosin-based and water-soluble fluxes, and the isopropanol cleaner with a purity above 99.9 % takes off fingerprints and dust.
Pack size by application method
Urethane Clear is available as a 400 ml spray can for repair and small series, and in 1 and 5 litre cans for dip, brush and spray application in production. The thinners come in 1 and 5 litres.
