In semiconductor and PCB assembly a worker covers several kilometres a day inside the EPA, and every one of those steps builds up charge. The BOSTON ESD drains that charge to the floor through the cork-latex footbed, the leather insole cover and the EVA outsole, so the person-shoe-floor system stays under the 100 MOhm resistance required by DIN EN 61340-5-1. It is also a clog you wear for a full shift: 715 g in size 40 and a footbed that spreads the load across the whole sole. The narrow width is cut for slim feet that swim in a regular last and therefore often end up a size too small.

What the shoe delivers

• Dissipative in every layer. Footbed, insole cover and outsole are made in an ESD version and tested to DIN EN 61340. Inside an EPA to DIN EN 61340-5-1 what counts is the resistance of the person-shoe-floor system, and it has to stay below 100 MOhm. In practice: no component damage from a discharge on the way from the bench to the machine.
• Anatomical cork-latex footbed. A deep heel cup, longitudinal and transverse arch supports and a toe grip spread body weight over the entire surface instead of loading heel and ball. That is the argument for anyone who works standing up.
• A defined narrow width, not a compromise size. The model is built on one clearly defined last and is available in EU sizes 36 to 43. Pick the right width and you do not have to bend the length.
• 715 g in size 40. The cushioning EVA outsole absorbs the impact on screed and industrial flooring while keeping the shoe light.
• Leather that breathes. Smooth leather upper, suede leather insole cover. The open-pored surface takes up moisture and keeps the foot climate dry even during physical work.
• On and off in seconds. The BOSTON is an open clog with a single individually adjustable metal pin buckle. Every change between grey and clean area saves a few seconds.

Standards and conformity

ESD protection is tested to DIN EN 61340 according to the manufacturer. The standard that governs the workplace is DIN EN 61340-5-1, which requires the person-shoe-floor system to stay below 100 MOhm. Whether that value is met always depends on the flooring and on the operator test on site, the shoe alone does not guarantee it.

This clog is occupational footwear, not safety footwear. According to the data sheet it has no toe cap and carries no protection class to EN ISO 20345. Where the workplace calls for toe protection or penetration resistance, choose a safety shoe of class S1 or higher.
