Light workwear in an EPA is a decision in favour of visibility. Every flux residue, every smear of grease and every fibre carried in from outside shows up on a white jacket immediately. In cleanroom ante-areas and at visual inspection benches that is not a drawback but the whole idea. Soiling becomes a signal instead of going unnoticed for three shifts.

The second reason is simply warmth. 300 g/m² of compact cotton covers the range where an air-conditioned hall turns uncomfortable, so nobody reaches for a private fleece and carries a non-dissipative layer into the EPA.

In mixed areas white also does the identification work. Visitors, auditors and external contractors are recognisable from a distance when the permanent staff wears darker colours.

  • Contamination shows immediately: Flux, toner or hand cream is visible on white at once, so a garment goes into the laundry by condition rather than by calendar date.
  • Conductive rib collar: Collar, cuffs and hem band are knitted from the same conductive yarn as the body, so the closures at neck and wrist dissipate as well as the panels do.
  • 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms, measured by STFI: Testing took place at 23 °C and only 25 % relative humidity. That is the dry case in which clothing charges most, and the figure applies exactly there.
  • Low-lint compact cotton: Compact spinning ties protruding fibre ends into the yarn, so fewer light particles end up on an assembly in front of an airlock or under a microscope.
  • Zip instead of pulling over: The full-length zip lets the jacket come off without disturbing a hair net, glasses or headset. At every zone change that saves a movement.
  • 300 g/m² with no extra layer: Sweat-weight fabric replaces the private jumper worn under a coat and keeps everything an operator has on inside the dissipative concept.

White in cleanroom-adjacent areas

White is the colour of control. Where assemblies sit under a microscope, where ante-areas to a cleanroom are entered or where inspectors look at bright surfaces all day, a jacket that reveals every mark is useful rather than inconvenient. There is a side effect at the bench, too. Light sleeves reflect the beam of an inspection or magnifier lamp more evenly and throw fewer shadows onto the object being examined.

Material and fabric

The fabric is 96 % cotton and 4 % conductive yarn at a weight of 300 g/m². Compact cotton yarn ties short fibre ends into the thread, which produces considerably less lint than openly spun yarn. Cotton also charges less readily than synthetics and takes on odour more slowly, and across an eight hour shift that difference is noticeable.

Mercerisation smooths the fibre surface and gives the white an even, calm appearance. The hand stays soft enough to wear the jacket straight over a T-shirt. Dyeing is reactive and spinning is ring-spun, which is where the dimensional stability over the service life comes from.

Construction in detail

The zip runs the full length to the chin and can be adjusted step by step when moving between hall, laboratory and office. Rib collar, cuffs and hem band are conductive and close the jacket cleanly, so sleeves do not ride up over gloves. Two side pockets take small parts. The ESD logo on the left sleeve shows on entry to the EPA that this is approved clothing rather than a private garment.

Dissipation across many wash cycles

Light clothing goes into the laundry more often than dark clothing because its condition is plain to see. That puts the dissipative properties under closer scrutiny. The conductive yarn is part of the knitted structure and not a coating that gives up after ten cycles. High-grade silver yarn is processed in a method of our own that has run unchanged for years.

Testing for dissipation and surface resistance followed DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. STFI determined 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. Conductivity is retained through repeated washing and wear, which is exactly what a laundry pool with a fixed rotation depends on.

Fit and size range

Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL are available, which makes it practical to dress a whole department in one specification. Care and service life

The jacket is designed for industrial laundering, which matters with light clothing and its more frequent turnaround. Compact cotton and ring-spun yarn hold the shape over many cycles and conductivity is retained across many wash cycles. Temperature and programme are set by the sewn-in care label, and no washing recommendation of our own is issued.

Finishing and custom versions

Company logo, department or name can be embroidered or printed, with printing possible up to 160 °C. A sample print in advance is recommended. Dark artwork reads particularly clearly on a light ground. A contrast version, an added chest pocket and special colours outside the catalogue are arranged on request. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

The jacket was tested for dissipation and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016, carried out by STFI. The measured values were 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms in a test climate of 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. Further ESD standards are not the subject of any test or certification for this article.
