Anyone spending eight hours at a soldering bench notices the gap between 150 g/m² of combed compact cotton yarn and a heavy synthetic fabric long before the first break. Cotton takes up moisture instead of leaving it trapped against the skin, and it develops far less odour over a shift than a tightly woven man-made fabric. The crew neck with its conductive rib collar sits close without pressing on the throat, and the sleeves move with the arm when someone reaches across the bench for a component dispenser.

That is where the case for this shirt starts, with the shift rather than the catalogue. The grey short sleeve model belongs to our own ESD range and is made in twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL, so a whole production department can be dressed from one series. Measured surface resistance runs from 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms, tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 by the STFI test institute.

Your benefits

  • 150 g/m² across a full shift: Combed compact cotton yarn stays comfortable through an eight hour shift because it absorbs moisture rather than sitting on the skin the way heavy synthetics do.
  • Conductive rib collar: The collar itself is made conductive and sits against the neck, so dissipation does not stop at the neckline but carries across the whole upper body garment.
  • Surface resistance 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms: This figure comes from testing to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at the STFI institute and is the number an EPA coordinator needs for the audit file.
  • Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL: From 3XS to 6XL nobody is left with a compromise fit, even in a department with very different builds. The size chart is supplied as a PDF for reference.
  • Conductivity survives laundering: The yarn woven into the fabric keeps its dissipative behaviour over many wash cycles, which is what makes the shirt suitable for an industrial laundry loop.
  • Chest pocket and neck tape: The left chest pocket holds a test probe, badge or pen, while the neck tape reinforces the shoulder seam exactly where pulling the shirt on loads the fabric.
  • Grey as a base colour in stock: A restrained mid tone fits between light and dark garments and works as a base when other colours are meant to identify roles or working areas.

Material and fabric

The fabric is 96 % cotton and 4 % conductive yarn. The cotton is combed compact yarn spun on ring spinning machines, and that extra step matters because combing removes the short fibres. What remains is a smoother yarn surface, less fibre shed at the workplace and a fabric that keeps its shape after repeated laundering instead of going baggy at hem and collar.

Dyeing is reactive, meaning the dye bonds with the fibre rather than resting on top of it. In practice a repeat order does not stand out as a lighter or darker patch in an existing stock. At 150 g/m² the shirt sits in the weight range intended for indoor work and adds no bulk under a coat or jacket.

Fit and size range

The shirt is made in twelve sizes, running 3XS, 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL through to 3XL, 4XL, 5XL and 6XL. One order line therefore covers an entire production floor, from an apprentice on the assembly line to a field service engineer in an outsize. All twelve sizes run in the same construction and come from the same series.

The size chart is provided as a PDF in the Downloads tab for matching measurements to sizes. Before a larger first order it pays to try a sample in a mid size, since the result of that fitting can then be carried across the whole range with confidence.

  • Sizes 3XS, 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL, 6XL
  • Straight cut, wearable under a coat or a work jacket

Construction in detail

The crew neck is finished with a conductive rib collar. Rib knit pulls back into shape after the shirt is put on, so the collar still stands after months in circulation instead of stretching out. A neck tape reinforces the shoulder seam on the inside and absorbs the pull that comes from dragging the shirt over the head.

A pocket sits on the left chest for a test probe, works badge or pen, and the ESD logo is placed on the left sleeve. On the shop floor that logo does real work, because it shows at a glance whether someone inside the EPA is wearing the correct garment without anyone reaching for a measuring instrument.

  • Left chest pocket
  • Internal neck tape
  • ESD logo on the left sleeve

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

Dissipation does not come from a coating but from the yarn built into the fabric. High grade silver yarn is processed using a method of our own. Because the yarn is woven in rather than applied to the surface, the effect remains over many wash cycles, whereas a surface finish loses its effect over time.

Measured surface resistance lies between 10⁵ and 10⁸ ohms. Around 100 volts is already enough to damage sensitive semiconductor structures beyond repair, and every generation of smaller geometries narrows that margin further. Personnel dissipation through clothing therefore stands alongside flooring, footwear, work surfaces and ionisation as one pillar of an EPA concept.

Grey in a mixed stock

Grey is the restrained mid tone in the colour range, which makes it a sound base colour for a stock that has grown over several years. It does not look out of place between lighter and darker garments, and it stays quiet enough to let stronger colours keep their job of marking roles or areas.

Reactive dyeing keeps the tone consistent across deliveries, so the stock still looks uniform after several repeat orders. If you want a neutral basis for the whole workforce and plan to set individual functions apart by colour, grey is a sensible foundation to build on.

Applications

  • Assembly and placement workstations in electronics manufacturing
  • Soldering and rework benches with long seated periods
  • Test, inspection and repair positions including measurement work
  • Semiconductor and assembly stores during order picking
  • Field service work and the outer zones of an EPA

Care and service life

The shirt is suitable for industrial laundering, and the dissipative behaviour of the yarn woven into it survives many wash cycles. No fixed washing temperature is specified, so the care label sewn into the garment is the binding reference. Ring spun yarn and reactive dyeing hold shape and shade even when the same piece goes through the laundry every week.

Finishing and custom versions

Printing is possible up to 160 °C and the fabric takes embroidery, with a sample print recommended beforehand. Special equipment and colours outside the catalogue range are available on request. Further options cover sleeves with conductive knitted cuffs, a contrast version and long sleeves with conductive rib cuffs.

Standards and testing

Dissipative performance has been tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016, with a measured surface resistance between 10⁵ and 10⁸ ohms. The test was carried out by the STFI institute at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. No certification to further ESD standards exists, and other standards are mentioned only as context.
