Overview

The Hakko FT-700 is a specialized soldering tip polisher designed to restore oxidized and carbide-coated soldering tips to optimal performance. This maintenance kit prevents premature tip wear and extends service life by safely removing oxidation films and carbide deposits without damaging the tip's iron plating. Particularly effective for tips used with lead-free solder and high-temperature applications.

Cleaning Procedure

For optimal results, follow this maintenance sequence: (1) Heat the soldering tip to approximately 350°C. (2) Remove carbides and oxides using the FT-700 polisher. (3) Apply chemical paste FS-100 to the tip to dissolve remaining oxides. (4) Wipe away excess paste. (5) Re-tin the tip with fresh solder. (6) Repeat steps 2–5 until solder wets evenly across the tip surface. (7) Feed sufficient solder to coat the tip and prevent oxidation during storage.

Important Notes

Tip temperatures exceeding 400°C may cause rapid re-oxidation even after polishing. When oxidation is severe and cannot be removed by polishing alone, use the included brush; however, this may create minor scratches on the iron plating. Reserve brush use for stubborn deposits only. Do not use the brush routinely.
