Soldering and rework benches are not clean places. Flux residue creeps along the sleeves, a fine deposit from solder smoke settles on shoulders and chest, and grease from tools plus toner dust from the printer next door do the rest. A light garment looks used after two shifts, and people stop reaching for it.

The black version is made for those corners of production. 96 % cotton with 4 % conductive yarn at 150 g/m² gives a fabric that breathes through a full shift and still provides the dissipative behaviour an EPA requires. The measured surface resistance sits between 10⁵ and 10⁸ ohm.

It is worn like any other T-shirt, and that is the real point. Crew neck, conductive ribbed collar, left chest pocket, neck tape and an ESD logo on the left sleeve. Nobody has to fit an extra item or run a check before the shift starts.

Your benefits

  • Protection without an extra step: The conductive yarn is part of the fabric and works as soon as the shirt is on. No further item to put on, no visual check before every shift at the rework bench.
  • 150 g/m² across a full shift: Combed compact cotton yarn at 150 g/m² stays comfortable after eight hours at the stereo microscope and traps far less heat than a heavy synthetic fabric.
  • Tested resistance range: Surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohm, measured by the STFI test institute to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at 23 (+/-1) degrees C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity.
  • Conductive ribbed collar: The collar itself is conductive and finishes the crew neck cleanly. Thanks to the ring spun yarn it keeps its shape through a long series of wash cycles.
  • Chest pocket that earns its place: The left chest pocket holds a test record, a pen or a roll of labels, so small items stay off the bench and out of trouser pockets during handling work.
  • Black that stays black: Reactive dyeing keeps the shade over many wash cycles instead of drifting towards grey after a few months of industrial laundry service.
  • Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL: The range from 3XS to 6XL lets a whole department wear one model, so no individual has to fall back on a different garment for fit reasons.

Material and fabric

The fabric is 96 % cotton and 4 % conductive yarn. It is knitted from combed compact cotton yarn, which means the short fibres are removed before spinning. The result is a smoother, low lint surface that releases fewer particles over open assemblies than a coarsely spun jersey.

At 150 g/m² the fabric weight sits where it neither weighs on the wearer in summer nor adds bulk under a work jacket. Cotton absorbs moisture, is less prone to odour than synthetics and picks up less charge on its own. The conductive yarn then takes care of dissipation.

Construction in detail

The ribbed collar is conductive and binds the crew neck cleanly. A neck tape covers the shoulder seam on the inside, which stops it from rubbing and keeps the seam straight. The left chest pocket takes what has to stay within reach at the bench, a test record, a pen or a roll of labels.

The ESD logo sits on the left sleeve and is visible from the outside, which saves questions during audits and with visitors inside the EPA. Dimensional stability comes from the ring spun yarn. The shirt keeps its length after washing, the neckline stays where it belongs and the hem does not curl.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

The STFI test institute measured surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 and recorded 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohm at 23 (+/-1) degrees C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. Those 25 % are the awkward case, because dry air makes dissipation harder. A value inside the window under such conditions therefore says more than a reading taken in comfortable air.

What matters in daily use is that the effect lasts. The conductive yarn keeps its conductivity after repeated washing and wear. High grade silver yarn is processed in a method developed for this fabric. There is no coating that could simply wash away.

Fit and size range

Twelve sizes are available, 3XS, 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL and 6XL. That covers a complete department, from the smallest apprentice to the colleague who otherwise ends up ordering outside the standard range every time. One single model also keeps repeat orders simple.

The upper end of the range runs in the same construction and the same quality as every other size. Anyone who wants to measure before a first order will find the size chart as a PDF in the Downloads tab. Ordering samples in two or three sizes is the quickest route to the right size split.

Black on the shop floor

Black suits benches where flux, grease and toner dust are part of the day. The fabric is not dirt repellent, it simply shows soiling less clearly, and that extends the time a shirt still looks presentable. In front of visitors and customers, a production area dressed in black reads as calm and orderly.

Reactive dyeing is more than a line on a data sheet here. The dye bonds to the fibre instead of merely sitting on it, so the shade survives many wash cycles rather than fading out after a few months of reprocessing. Stock built up from several deliveries still looks like one consistent set after two years.

Applications

  • Soldering and rework benches with flux residue and solder smoke deposit
  • Board assembly and manual handling of populated assemblies inside the EPA
  • Test and repair stations with measuring equipment and exposed boards
  • Semiconductor and assembly stores, picking of sensitive components
  • Field service work, worn under a jacket or a coat
  • Training and visitor areas where a uniform appearance is expected

Care and service life

The shirt is suitable for industrial laundry service. The conductivity of the yarn is retained over many wash cycles, so the ESD function does not disappear after the first few reprocessing runs. Ring spun yarn and combed compact cotton hold the shape, collar and hem stay in line. Temperature and programme are governed by the care label sewn into the garment.

Finishing and custom versions

Printable up to 160 degrees C and suitable for embroidery, a sample print in advance is recommended. Company logos, area markings and contrast versions are produced on request, as are sleeves with conductive knitted cuffs, a long sleeve version with conductive ribbed cuffs and colours outside the catalogue range. Standards and testing

What is tested is the dissipative behaviour to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. The STFI test institute measured a surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohm in a test climate of 23 (+/-1) degrees C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. No testing or certification to further ESD standards exists, other standards only describe the wider context.
