In a larger EPA the same question comes up on every shift: which crew is on the placement line right now, who belongs to the test department, and which person is a visitor with limited access? A fixed colour code on the workwear answers that from across the hall, without anyone reaching for a badge.
That is what the cobalt blue version of this ESD T-shirt is made for. It combines 96 % cotton with 4 % conductive yarn at 150 gsm, light enough to wear through a full shift at a soldering bench. The conductive rib collar carries the dissipative path up to the neckline, and the ESD logo on the left sleeve marks the garment as part of the protected area.
Surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms was measured by the STFI test institute to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL are enough to dress a complete department in one look.
Your benefits
- Cobalt blue as a role marker: The strong blue stands apart from muted blue and grey workwear, which makes it a practical way to assign a team, a function or a group of visitors at a glance.
- 150 gsm across a full shift: Combed compact cotton at this weight traps far less heat than a heavy synthetic fabric and still wears comfortably after eight hours at a rework bench.
- Conductive rib collar: The collar itself is dissipative, so the path does not stop at the neckline, which is exactly where the fabric rubs most when an operator leans over an assembly.
- 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms, tested: STFI measured surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at 23 (+/-1) degrees C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity, meaning dry air and therefore the harder test condition.
- Conductivity survives laundering: The conductive yarn is knitted into the fabric rather than applied to the surface. Its effect remains after repeated washing and wear, and the yarn used is high grade silver yarn.
- Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL: The range covers slim and heavy builds alike, so nobody inside the zone has to fall back on a poorly fitting spare in another colour or another cut.
- Embroidery and print to 160 degrees C: Company logo, department code or name can be embroidered or printed. A fully equipped series is supplied on request, and a sample print beforehand is recommended.
Material and fabric
The base is combed compact cotton spun as ring yarn. Combing removes the short fibres before spinning, which makes the yarn more even and the surface far less prone to shedding lint. At a workstation where bare printed circuit boards lie open on the bench, that is the whole point of choosing a cotton knit.
The composition is 96 % cotton and 4 % conductive yarn, at a fabric weight of 150 gsm. Cotton picks up less static charge on its own than a synthetic fabric and holds odour less readily. With several shifts a week in the garment cycle, that difference is noticeable for the people wearing it.

- combed compact cotton, ring spun
- reactive dyed
Lasting dissipation and wash resistance
The conductive yarn is part of the knitted structure and is not applied afterwards. It forms a grid that picks up charge from the body surface and passes it on to the grounding system of the workstation. This effect remains after repeated washing and wear, using high grade silver yarn processed in a method developed for it.
The measured surface resistance is 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms, taken at 23 (+/-1) degrees C room temperature and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. The low test humidity is the real argument here, because dry air is the least favourable case for any dissipative garment. The value was reached under exactly that condition.
Construction in detail
The crew neck carries a conductive rib collar that holds its shape even when the shirt is pulled over the head every day. A pocket on the left chest takes a test probe, a pen or a works pass. Inside, a neck tape runs across the shoulder seam and absorbs the pull that would otherwise stretch the neckline out of shape.
The ESD logo sits on the left sleeve and is visible from outside, so anyone entering the zone can see without asking whether the garment belongs to the protected area. Shape retention comes from the ring spun yarn, and the shirt moves less in length and width after laundering than an open end fabric.

Fit and size range
Twelve sizes are available: 3XS, 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL and 6XL. A complete production floor can therefore be dressed alike, from the smallest build at the placement line to the heaviest colleague in the semiconductor store, without anyone switching to a different colour or a different model to get a fit.
The cut is straight and leaves room to move at the bench, without loose fabric dragging across the work surface. Anyone wearing the shirt under an ESD coat can stay with the familiar size. The upper sizes come from the same series and in the same construction as every other size.
Colour concept and decoration
Cobalt blue is a strong and clearly distinguishable shade of blue. On the shop floor it will not be confused with darker blues, which is why it works well to reserve a team, a function or a visitor group by colour. Reactive dyeing bonds the dye to the fibre, so the brightness holds up through many industrial laundry cycles.
As a background for decoration the shade is generous. Embroidery in white or silver sits on it with high contrast, and a department code stays readable across a longer distance. Print is possible up to 160 degrees C. A sample print beforehand is recommended so that motif size and position are fixed before the series.

Applications
- Placement and hand soldering work on bare printed circuit boards
- Test and repair benches with colour coded teams
- Goods receipt and stores for semiconductors and assemblies
- Training areas and visitor routes inside an EPA
- Measurement work and field service with customer contact
Care and service life
The shirt is suitable for industrial laundry and keeps its dissipative behaviour through many wash cycles. Ring spun yarn gives it shape retention, so collar and hem stay in form, which extends service life in the garment cycle. The care label inside the shirt is binding for wash process and temperature.
Finishing and custom versions
Decoration is done by embroidery or by print up to 160 degrees C, with a sample print recommended beforehand. An equipped series and special colours outside the catalogue range are supplied on request. Sleeves with a conductive knit cuff, a contrast execution and long sleeves with conductive rib cuffs are available as well.
Standards and testing
The T-shirt was tested for dissipation and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. The measurement was carried out by the STFI test institute at 23 (+/-1) degrees C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity, with a result of 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms. No test or certification to further ESD standards exists, and none is claimed here.
