The A1-ESD black ESD sweat jacket is knitted from 96 % compact cotton with 4 % conductive yarn at 300 g/m². Rib collar, cuffs and hem band are conductive and the zip runs all the way to the chin. STFI measured a surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms on this fabric.

Anyone equipping an EPA runs into the same gap. A T-shirt is too little for an air-conditioned test bay, a winter jacket far too much. At 300 g/m² this sweat jacket covers exactly that range, and it does so without putting an untreated outer layer over an open assembly.

Black belongs wherever flux spatters, thermal paste is spread or toner dust hangs in the air. The jacket still looks presentable at the end of a shift, and that is what decides whether an operator keeps the workwear on or reaches for a private hoodie.

Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL cover a full workforce, from the apprentice at the inspection bench to the maintenance technician. The ESD logo on the left sleeve identifies the garment during an audit walk without anyone having to read a label.

Your benefits

  • 300 g/m² compact cotton: The fabric weight keeps operators warm at air-conditioned inspection and measuring stations while staying breathable enough for a full shift beside a fume extractor.
  • Conductive collar and cuffs: Rib collar, cuffs and hem band are knitted from the same conductive yarn as the body, so the edges of the jacket dissipate instead of forming an isolated charge pocket.
  • 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms measured: STFI recorded the surface resistance at 23 °C and 25 % relative humidity, the dry climate in which charge generation on clothing is at its most severe.
  • Full-length zip to the chin: The jacket goes on and off in seconds with no pull over the head, which matters when safety glasses, a headset or a hair net are already in place.
  • Reactive dyeing: The dye bonds into the fibre rather than sitting on top of it. Black stays deep through repeated industrial laundering and does not bleed into the seams.
  • Ring-spun yarn holds its shape: Ring spinning keeps sleeves and hem in shape. In the second year of service the cuff still sits on the wrist instead of hanging over the hand.
  • Two side pockets: Test probe, folding rule or handheld scanner have a fixed place, so tools do not travel in a chest pocket above an open assembly.

Material and fabric

The knit is 96 % cotton and 4 % conductive yarn. It is made from compact cotton yarn, a spinning method that ties protruding fibre ends into the thread. The result is a low-lint fabric, and at workstations with open assemblies every fibre that does not land on a board or in a connector counts. Compared with synthetics, cotton also charges up and picks up odour far less readily.

Mercerisation smooths the fibre surface. That gives a softer hand directly on the skin and an even black that does not look dull under hall lighting. At 300 g/m² the jacket sits in classic sweat weight and layers over a T-shirt or polo shirt from the same range.

  • 96 % cotton, 4 % conductive yarn
  • Fabric weight 300 g/m²
  • Compact cotton yarn, low lint and dimensionally stable
  • Reactive dyed and mercerised
  • Conductive silver yarn from a process of our own

Construction in detail

The zip runs the full length up to the chin. Anyone moving between a cool hall and a warm office regulates the jacket step by step instead of taking it off completely. Rib collar, cuffs and hem band close the jacket at neck, wrist and hip and are all conductive. Two side pockets take small parts, and the ESD logo on the left sleeve stays visible even when the jacket is worn open.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

The conductive yarn is neither a print nor a finish that washes out. It is part of the knitted structure. High-grade silver yarn is processed in a method of our own. Conductivity is retained through repeated washing and wear, and in rental laundry schemes with a fixed rotation cycle that is what determines service life.

Dissipation and surface resistance were tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. STFI measured 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. That climate is deliberately dry, because humid air takes the edge off charging on its own. The figure therefore describes the unfavourable case in winter, when the heating runs and humidity on the shop floor drops.

Fit and size range

The jacket is available in twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL, so a complete workforce can be fitted without anyone catching a loose sleeve on a microscope stage or losing reach at an assembly bench. The full measurement chart is available as a PDF in the Downloads tab of this product page.

Where black pays off

Black hides exactly the residues that occur in electronics manufacturing: flux, solder paste, thermal compound, toner from the printer store, grease from maintenance. For field service engineers there is a second argument. A black jacket still looks tidy at the customer site after a long drive. Where teams are separated by colour, black usually goes to technical services and maintenance while lighter shades stay with production.

Applications

  • Assembly and soldering benches in air-conditioned halls
  • Rework and repair on open assemblies
  • Test and measuring stations kept at low room temperature
  • Semiconductor and board stores with long walking distances
  • Field service work on customer premises
  • Cleanroom ante-areas as well as training and visitor zones

Care and service life

The jacket is suitable for industrial laundering. Compact cotton and ring-spun yarn hold the shape over many cycles, and conductivity survives repeated washing and wear. Temperature and programme are governed by the care label sewn into the garment, so no washing recommendation of our own is given here.

Finishing and custom versions

Embroidery and printing are both available, with printing up to 160 °C. A sample print beforehand is recommended because substrate and artwork have to match. A company logo, a contrast version and an added chest pocket are arranged on request, as are special colours outside the catalogue range. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

The sweat jacket has passed testing for dissipation and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. The test institute was STFI, which measured 10⁵ to 10⁸ ohms at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. There is no testing or certification against further ESD standards, and no such claim is made here.
