The socket receives the plug of the same size and holds it in the connection. It usually sits on the fixed side of the installation, for instance at the machine or manifold port. Sockets are likewise offered in brass, steel and stainless steel, with an NBR or FKM seal depending on the version. Model MAM-A-3S12, brass, Seal material FKM.

MAM-A Type suits air and water circuits up to 1.0 MPa {10 kgf/cm2} that are changed over by hand and need both sides to close: MAM Type is limited to 0.7 MPa {7 kgf/cm2} and shuts off on the socket side only. Above 1.0 MPa the choice moves to MAS Type / MAT Type at 7.0 MPa {71 kgf/cm2} or to MALC-HSP Type at 21.0 to 25.0 MPa {214 to 255 kgf/cm2}. Against MAM-B Type, which carries the same 1.0 MPa rating and the same two-way shut-off, decide by plate and port layout, noting that MAM-A-ZEL Type is not offered on MAM-B plates in size Rc 1/8.

In order to balance the force of system pressure, place each CUPLA symmetrically from the lock unit centre.
