Class S1PS esd safety sandal for electronics manufacturing, listed by ATLAS as EN ISO 20345:2022 S1PS SR. The person shoe floor resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1 stays below 100 MOhm and the alu-tec aluminium toe cap withstands 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression. Mesh upper, penetration resistant with the 3.0 mm nail test, MPU INNOFLEX outsole and width 13 from the ATLAS multi-width system.

In an EPA to DIN EN 61340-5-1 the wearer discharges through the sole of the shoe as soon as he walks to the machine. For the FLASH 4605 XP ATLAS guarantees a person shoe floor resistance below 100 MOhm, so the charge drains away before it reaches an assembly. At the same time the toe cap withstands 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression, as EN ISO 20345:2022 requires for class S1PS. The sandal design with open side panels and hook and loop straps brings air to the foot, and the article is listed as S1PS SR. This version is width 13 from the ATLAS multi-width system.

What the shoe delivers

  • The charge leaves through the shoe, not through the component. For ESD footwear ATLAS guarantees a resistance below 100 MOhm, measured by the person shoe floor method of DIN EN 61340-5-1. The charge carried by the wearer drains away on the walk to the machine instead of discharging into the assembly. The lower limit of 0.1 MOhm from DGUV rule 112-191 is kept, so the limited protection against electric shock when working up to 230 V remains in place.
  • Protection class S1PS in plain words. ATLAS lists the article under the current EN ISO 20345:2022 as S1PS SR. S1 means a toe cap rated for 200 joules of impact and 15 kN of compression, a closed heel area with energy absorption and an antistatic build. The suffix PS stands for a non-metallic penetration resistant insert, tested in the new edition with the thin 3.0 mm nail and therefore more demanding than the PL variant with 4.5 mm.
  • Penetration resistance without metal in the shoe. The XP technology uses a high-tech textile containing aramid fibres instead of a steel midsole. It covers the full sole area, stays flexible and allows the natural torsion of the foot. Metal free also means no cold bridge and no alarm at the works metal detector.
  • SR instead of SRA and SRC. In the 2022 edition slip resistance on ceramic with detergent is a basic requirement for every safety shoe. The additional SR marking confirms the passed test on ceramic with glycerine, the harder of the two floors.
  • An aluminium toe cap instead of steel. This model uses the alu-tec aluminium cap. It withstands the same 200 joules and 15 kN as a steel cap, weighs less and shifts the centre of gravity of the shoe towards the middle of the foot, which reduces stumbling. Aluminium is thermally neutral, so no cold bridge forms inside the shoe.
  • Cushioning built for an eight hour day. The MPU INNOFLEX System guides the forces along the INNOFLEX LINE from heel to toe. The MPU REBOUND SYSTEM absorbs the energy in the CLOUDZONE of the heel and returns it into the next step. Anyone standing and walking for eight hours feels the difference in the back and the joints by the end of the shift.
  • Foot climate for warm halls. A mesh upper, the aktiv-X functional lining and the clima-stream concept work together. The air texture of the fabric lets the air circulate, the functional lining regulates moisture actively, does not stain and resists abrasion. The shoe dries out again overnight.
  • Width 13 from the ATLAS multi-width system. Standard width 10 is already cut broad at ATLAS, width 13 goes beyond it. It suits very wide feet and for wearers who also need to fit an orthopaedic insole. Length and protective performance stay the same, only the last gets wider.
  • Insoles remain possible. The article is suitable for orthopaedic insoles under DGUV rule 112-191. The marking inside the shoe is what counts, so the approval is not lost when the insole is replaced.

Areas of use

The shoe belongs in dry indoor areas: electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, EPA zones to DIN EN 61340-5-1, test areas and laboratories, cleanroom ante-rooms, repair and service work, warehousing and order picking. The metal free penetration resistant insert also covers areas where swarf, nails or packaging staples lie on the floor. Water protection is not part of the class, so wet areas remain out of scope.

Standards and conformity

On its own product page ATLAS lists the article under the current EN ISO 20345:2022 as S1PS SR. The 2022 edition replaced the old SRA, SRB and SRC markings and restructured penetration resistance into P for metallic inserts, PL for non-metallic inserts tested with the 4.5 mm nail and PS for non-metallic inserts tested with the 3.0 mm nail. As personal protective equipment the shoe falls under risk category 2 of PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The ESD suitability does not follow the footwear standard but DIN EN 61340-5-1 with the person shoe floor measuring method.

EN ISO 20345 defines a resistance above 100 kOhm and below 1000 MOhm for every safety shoe. ESD footwear narrows that window at the top to 100 MOhm and thereby protects the product during manufacturing.

Sizes

Available in EU sizes 39 to 49. This article is built in width 13, and ATLAS offers the same model in standard width 10, in width 12 and in the special widths 13 and 14.
