A rework bench is rarely a clean place to work. Flux residue, solder paste and grease from tools reach the sleeve first and the assembly second. In black, this coat carries those marks without looking worn out after a fortnight, and it keeps the wearer inside the discharge path of the EPA while doing so.

The fabric weighs 155 g/m² and combines 48 % cotton with 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn. Cotton handles the comfort side across a full shift, the polyester share keeps the garment in shape through industrial laundering, and the conductive yarn belongs to the weave rather than being an added trim.

The cut follows a ladies' fit with side bust darts, a notched lapel collar, a concealed press stud placket and a sweat guard at the neck. Sleeve width is adjusted with press studs at the wrist.

  • Low linting compact yarn: Compacted yarn leaves fewer fibre ends standing out. At a microscope, a bonding site or an open assembly, a single fibre is enough to spoil a measurement.

Material and fabric

The base is compact cotton yarn in a blend of 48 % cotton and 48 % polyester with 4 % conductive yarn. Compact spinning presses the fibres together more tightly, so fewer fibre ends stand proud of the surface. The result is a fabric that lints very little and carries hardly any particles towards an open assembly.

At 155 g/m² the coat is deliberately kept light. Across eight hours at a test bench the difference to a heavy synthetic is easy to feel, because cotton takes up moisture and passes it on instead of holding it against the skin. A coat that stays comfortable is a coat that stays on, which matters more for EPA discipline than any instruction sheet.

Construction in detail

The notched lapel collar lies flat and can be worn open without pressing on the neck. Below it a concealed press stud placket closes the coat, with the studs fully covered by fabric. Leaning across the bench therefore brings no metal part into contact with the unit under test.

A sweat guard sits at the neck, precisely where a coat in daily service wears out first. Side bust darts give the ladies' cut its shape without restricting freedom of movement over the hips. The ESD logo is placed on the right side pocket and stays visible even when the coat is worn open.

Dissipative performance and wash resistance

Surface resistance was measured by STFI at 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, tested for dissipative behaviour to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at 23 (+/- 1) °C and 25 (+/- 5) % relative humidity. The dry test climate carries real weight, because during the heating season many production halls sit in exactly that humidity range.

The conductive yarn retains its effect after repeated washing and wearing. We use high grade silver yarn in a process of our own, so the conductive element stays part of the weave instead of sitting on the surface as a finish. For purchasing that means service life is decided by the visible condition of the garment, not by a coating that quietly fades away.

Fit and size range

The coat is produced in twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL. That covers a complete department and still leaves room for a set of loan coats for visitors and auditors, without falling back on a compromise in fit. A coat cut too wide swings onto the assembly when the wearer leans forward, one cut too narrow comes off after the second shift.

Why black

Black is the colour for areas where something rubs off. Flux, solder paste, contact grease and toner dust leave rings that remain visible on light fabric after only a few shifts. On black they hardly register, and the coat still looks presentable after months of two shift operation.

Reactive dyed cotton holds its tone across many wash cycles, because the dye forms a firm bond with the fibre. With black that is the real test, since a faded coat is spotted immediately as soon as a new one hangs next to it on the rail. Reordering later therefore does not put a visibly different black into circulation.

Care and service life

The coat is designed for industrial laundering. The polyester share holds the shape, the compact cotton yarn barely distorts in the dryer, and the dissipative property survives many wash cycles. Binding information on temperature and process is given on the care label sewn into the garment.

Finishing and custom versions

The coat is suitable for embroidery and can be printed up to 160 °C, with a sample print recommended beforehand. Company logos, sleeves with conductive ribbed cuffs, an additional press stud pocket and a contrast version are made up on request, as are special colours outside the catalogue range. Standards and testing

Testing covered dissipative behaviour and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at STFI, with a result of 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms at 23 (+/- 1) °C and 25 (+/- 5) % relative humidity.
