Two weeks at a rework bench and the workwear shows it. Flux residue, grease from the fixture, toner dust drifting in from the next room. Black hides all of that, so the department still looks orderly on a Thursday afternoon instead of on Monday morning only.

The real job of the jacket is a different one. Every time an operator stands up, turns and reaches, charge builds on the body and on the garment. This fabric picks it up and carries it away in a controlled manner. Around 100 volts is already enough to damage a fine semiconductor structure permanently, and nobody feels a discharge that small.

That is what the conductive yarn is for. It makes up 4 % of the 155 g/m² fabric, and the measured surface resistance is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohm.

Your benefits

  • 155 g/m² across a full shift: A light blend with 48 % cotton. At a soldering bench with fume extraction less heat builds up underneath than under a heavy synthetic jacket, and the collar stays dry.
  • Concealed snap placket: The snaps sit behind the fabric. Leaning over a populated assembly, no metal can strike a housing, a heat sink or the edge of a board.
  • 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohm, measured at STFI: Tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at 23 °C and only 25 % relative humidity. That dry climate is exactly the winter condition in a production hall that matters.
  • Black for dirty processes: Desoldering, bonding and maintenance benches mean flux, grease and toner. Black keeps the appearance stable through the wash cycle and extends the service life of each garment.
  • Sweat guard at the neck: The inside of the collar is backed. The area that turns damp first in a 28 °C hall abrades less and holds its shape considerably longer.
  • 3XS to 6XL from one pattern: Twelve sizes from a single series. A whole team can be dressed alike instead of running two different models side by side.

Fabric and material

The fabric weighs 155 g/m² and combines 48 % cotton with 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn. Cotton absorbs moisture, while polyester keeps sleeves and front edge in shape after many industrial wash cycles. Compact cotton yarn is bundled more tightly during spinning, so fewer fibre ends stand proud and fewer particles are shed during movement.

  • Compact yarn, lint free and low in particles
  • Reactive dyeing for colour stability over many wash cycles

Construction in detail

The lapel collar lies flat and keeps the jacket presentable even worn open. Closure is a concealed snap placket, faster than a row of buttons when changing at an airlock and showing no metal at the front. A patch chest pocket sits on the left, joined by two side pockets with slanted openings. The ESD logo is placed on the right side pocket.

Lasting dissipative performance and wash resistance

The conductive yarn is woven into the fabric and is not a coating. It cannot be washed off or rubbed away. High grade silver yarn is worked into the weave in a process of our own. A jacket that still does the same job after the twentieth wash gets replaced because of wear, not because a reading dropped during the annual EPA audit.

Fit and size range

Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL cover a complete shift, from visual inspection through to field service. The larger sizes beyond XXL come from the same pattern. The size chart is available as a PDF in the Downloads tab, and a sample garment is worth ordering before a first rollout.

Why black

Black belongs where something ends up on the garment. Flux spatter at the desoldering station, thermal compound during a heat sink swap, toner dust in the equipment store. On a dark ground none of that shows, and the jacket does not leave circulation after four weeks for cosmetic reasons. On a customer site it also reads as neutral.

Applications

  • Soldering and rework benches with flux, solder paste and cleaning agents
  • Repair and refurbishment of devices and assemblies
  • Placement work and manual touch-up in electronics manufacturing
  • Semiconductor and assembly stores with picking duties
  • Field service, where neutral clothing on the customer site is expected

Care and service life

The jacket is suitable for industrial laundering, so it can run in a commercial wash pool. The polyester share holds collar, placket and pocket edges in shape. Conductivity is retained over many wash cycles. The binding care instructions are on the sewn-in label.

Finishing and custom versions

Printable up to 160 °C and suitable for embroidery, with a sample print recommended beforehand. Snap fasteners or a pocket in a contrasting execution, additional equipment details and colours outside the catalogue range are arranged on request. Decoration is carried out in Germany. Standards and testing

The jacket was successfully tested for dissipative behaviour and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. The test institute is STFI, and the measured value is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohm at 23 ±1 °C and 25 ±5 % relative humidity. Testing against further ESD standards has not taken place.
