At final inspection, on the metrology bench and in the ante-rooms to a cleanroom, a light coloured coat works as a control instrument. Fingerprints, flux spatter and dust show up immediately on white, so a garment that belongs out of circulation announces itself instead of surfacing during an audit.

Underneath the pale colour the garment behaves like its siblings. 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn, 155 g/m² fabric weight, short sleeves. Surface resistance was measured at STFI at 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, and that reading was taken at only 25 % relative humidity.

Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL ship from our own warehouse, single pieces for a new colleague included.

Your benefits

  • Soiling becomes visible: Flux residue, hand cream and dust stand out on white. Replacement then follows the actual condition of the coat rather than a date in the maintenance calendar.
  • Measured at 25 % humidity: The 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohm reading comes from a dry test climate, which is the very situation in which a fabric is most likely to lose its dissipative behaviour.
  • Sweat guard at the neck: The neck is where a coat greys first. The integrated guard absorbs moisture and keeps the collar presentable well beyond the point where an unprotected one gives up.
  • Low-lint compact cotton yarn: Compact yarn has few protruding fibre ends, so fewer particles settle on open assemblies and in ante-rooms where particle counts are watched.
  • Two slanted side pockets: The slanted openings keep tweezers, probes and a pen in the pocket even when an inspector spends the whole day alternating between sitting and standing.
  • Printable up to 160 °C: Department codes or a company logo can be embroidered or printed. Multi-colour logos need no underbase on a pale ground, though a sample print is still worthwhile.
  • Sizes 3XS to 6XL: Twelve sizes on the shelf, so visitors and interns can be kitted out from regular stock instead of from whatever happens to be left in the cupboard.

White on the shop floor

White does two jobs in electronics production. First, it makes contamination visible, which turns a coat into a quality tool in cleanroom ante-rooms and at final inspection. Second, it brightens the workplace, because a pale garment reflects the bench lamp back onto the work instead of swallowing it. For visitor and training areas inside an EPA, white is also the colour that separates guests from the production team at a glance.

Material and fabric

The cloth is 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn. The cotton side is compact cotton yarn and therefore low in lint, while the polyester share provides dimensional stability over many laundry cycles. At 155 g/m² the weight is well judged for an overcoat. Heavy enough to hang cleanly, light enough that nobody takes it off after two hours in July.

  • 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester, 4 % conductive yarn
  • Fabric weight 155 g/m²
  • Lint-free and hard-wearing
  • Silver-based conductive yarn from our own process
  • Less prone to static build-up and odour than synthetic cloth

Construction in detail

The notched lapel collar lies flat when the coat is worn open and still looks tidy after a day over work clothing. The front closes with a concealed press-stud placket, keeping metal away from housings, front panels and displays. There is a patch chest pocket on the left plus two side pockets with slanted openings. The ESD logo on the right side pocket identifies the garment as ESD clothing at a glance.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

Testing was carried out at STFI to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016, with a measured 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms at 23 ±1 °C and 25 ±5 % relative humidity. The article therefore sits in the dissipative range under conditions comparable to a heated production hall in January.

The conductive yarn is woven into the cloth rather than applied to it. High-grade silver yarn is processed in an in-house method, and conductivity survives repeated washing and wearing. For a fleet of white coats going through commercial laundry, that is the point that decides the cost per year.

Fit and size range

Sizes run from 3XS through 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL up to 3XL, 4XL, 5XL and 6XL, twelve steps in total. The coat is cut as an overgarment, leaving room for whatever is worn underneath. Anyone who wants to compare measurements before ordering will find the full size chart as a PDF in the Downloads tab.

Applications

  • Final inspection, metrology and quality assurance
  • Cleanroom ante-rooms and gowning areas
  • Microscope and inspection benches with bright task lighting
  • Visitor, training and audit escort duties inside the EPA
  • Assembly stores and outgoing goods inspection
  • Laboratory and prototype build in electronics development

Care and service life

The coat is suitable for industrial laundry, which matters most in white because pale garments go through the cycle more often. The polyester content keeps the measurements stable, and conductivity is retained across many wash cycles. The binding instructions are those on the sewn-in care label of each piece.

Finishing and custom versions

Embroidery and print up to 160 °C are available, with a sample print recommended in advance. Company logos, department codes, contrast press studs or a contrast pocket are carried out on request. Colours outside the catalogue range and special finishes are equally available on request. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

Dissipation and surface resistance were tested successfully to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at the STFI institute. The measured value is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms in a test climate of 23 ±1 °C and 25 ±5 % humidity. Further ESD standards are not the subject of any test or certification for this article, and nothing of the kind is claimed here.
