In sub-assembly, final test and cleanroom ante-areas the dress code is usually set by the auditor rather than the operator. White shows two things at once: that the zone is an EPA, and that the coat is clean. Dust, grease or a handprint are visible immediately, so the garment goes to the laundry instead of staying in service for another week.

The coat is worn over private clothing and covers the shirt, pullover or fleece that would otherwise charge freely. A concealed press stud placket, a notched lapel collar and a sweat guard at the neck make it something staff keep on all morning rather than shed after two hours.

The fabric weighs 155 gsm and consists of 48 percent cotton, 48 percent polyester and 4 percent conductive yarn. The measured surface resistance lies between 10⁵ and 10⁷ ohms.

Your benefits

  • Contamination shows immediately: On white, flux marks, oil and dust are visible within hours. The coat is laundered before particles reach an open assembly or an optical surface.
  • 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, STFI tested: Measured at 23 degrees Celsius and 25 percent relative humidity, precisely the dry hall climate in winter when charging becomes a real issue.
  • Bright ground for embroidery: Coloured logos and department markings stand on white without any backing. Visitors and auditors can place an area at a glance.
  • Lapel collar and sweat guard: The collar lies flat and stays down when worn open. The neck strip absorbs moisture before the collar seam takes it up and the fabric discolours.
  • Concealed press stud placket: Every stud sits behind fabric. Nothing scratches when the wearer leans over a test adapter or a housing, and the front stays a smooth surface.
  • Two slanted side pockets: The slanted openings stay reachable while seated, with a patch chest pocket on the left. The ESD logo sits on the right side pocket.
  • 3XS to 6XL from stock: Twelve sizes cover agency staff, trainees and the permanent team alike. We ship from our own warehouse, smaller quantities directly from stock.

White on the shop floor

White is the obvious choice for everything bordering a cleanroom: ante-area, sub-assembly, final test, metrology, quality lab. The advantage is practical. A coat whose condition you can see gets changed in time, while a dark one tends to stay in use several days too long. There is also the outward effect, since white clothing tells visitors and customers without explanation that rules apply in this zone.

Fabric and weight

The basis is a compact cotton yarn, complemented by polyester and 4 percent conductive yarn. Compact spinning binds protruding fibre ends into the thread before twisting. The thread becomes smoother, the fabric barely lints and the surface releases fewer particles than a conventional cotton weave.

Compact cotton is less prone to static charging and to odour than pure synthetics. The polyester share supplies the dimensional stability an overgarment needs across years of use. Reactive dyeing keeps the colour stable, so a white coat does not turn grey quickly after many laundry cycles.

  • 48% cotton as lint-free compact yarn
  • 48% polyester for dimensional stability
  • 4% conductive yarn in the weave
  • 155 gsm fabric weight
  • Less prone to charging and odour than pure synthetics

Construction in detail

The closure is a concealed press stud placket. It opens quickly when a visitor needs the coat only for a guided tour, and it shows no metal at the front. At test stations with painted front panels and at rework benches with open assemblies that difference is felt daily.

The long sleeves close with adjustable press studs. At the microscope or the soldering station they are set tight so the cuff does not sweep across the work surface. Three pockets take what is carried through a shift, and the ESD logo on the right side pocket stays visible while they are in use.

  • Concealed press stud placket
  • Notched lapel collar
  • Sweat guard at the neck
  • Patch chest pocket on the left
  • Two side pockets with slanted openings
  • ESD logo on the right side pocket

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

Dissipation and surface resistance were tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016, with STFI as the test institute. The measured range of 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms was obtained in a climate of 23 degrees Celsius plus minus 1 degree at 25 percent plus minus 5 percent relative humidity, that is under dry and therefore unfavourable conditions.

So that the figure does not disappear after twenty washes, the conductive yarn sits inside the weave rather than as a coating on top. High grade silver yarn is processed in a method developed specifically for this fabric. The coat is suitable for industrial laundering, and conductivity is retained across many cycles.

Fit and size range

Twelve sizes are available from 3XS to 6XL, with 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL in between. The cut is designed for wear over private clothing and leaves room for work with raised arms, at a control cabinet or a test rack for instance. All twelve sizes run in the same execution, from the smallest cut to the largest.

The measurement chart is available as a PDF in the Downloads tab of this product page. When kitting out a department, it makes sense to order a fitting set first and fix the quantities per size afterwards. Reordering single sizes later is easy, because we also ship small quantities from stock.

Applications

  • Cleanroom ante-areas and adjacent sub-assembly
  • Final test, quality laboratory and metrology
  • Microscope and inspection benches in bright surroundings
  • Semiconductor stores and handling of sensitive assemblies
  • Visitor tours and training sessions inside the EPA
  • Areas where test results are documented photographically

Care and service life

Suitable for industrial laundering. Compact yarn and polyester content hold the shoulder line and the front edge in shape, so the coat still sits properly after many cycles and can be worn again without ironing. White fabric signals the need for washing early, which tends to extend rather than shorten service life across the stock. The binding care instructions are on the label inside the garment.

Finishing and custom versions

White is the most rewarding ground for finishing. Print up to 160 degrees Celsius and embroidery are possible, a sample print beforehand is recommended. Company logos, department markings, conductive rib cuffs and additional press studs or pockets are implemented on request, as are colours outside the catalogue. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

Testing to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 for dissipation and surface resistance was passed, carried out by the STFI test institute. The measured value is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms in a test climate of 23 (+/- 1) degrees Celsius and 25 (+/- 5) percent relative humidity. Further ESD standards have so far been neither tested nor certified, they only form the wider context of an EPA concept.
