Anyone clothing an entire plant rarely looks for a striking colour. They look for one that can still be reordered in three years, that does not look worn out after two days on the floor and that clearly differs from the white visitor jacket at the entrance. Cornflower blue meets all three points, which is why electronics production has used it for decades.

Underneath the colour sits a 155 g/m² fabric of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn. Compact cotton yarn keeps the surface lint-free, and the polyester share is the reason the jacket still fits the same way after its tenth industrial wash as it did on day one.

Surface resistance was determined at the STFI to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms. That makes the jacket a personnel-related element of an EPA concept rather than merely a uniform.

Your benefits

  • A colour already in use: Cornflower blue is running in most electronics plants already. New deliveries blend into an existing stock without one department standing out from the rest.
  • Clearly apart from visitor white: Dressing permanent staff in blue and visitors in white shows from ten metres away who is trained and who has to be escorted. It costs nothing and works instantly.
  • Mid tone, sensible soiling behaviour: A mid blue neither shows every speck of dust like white nor hides heavy soiling like black. For stores and assembly work that is the workable middle ground.
  • 155 g/m² through a full shift: The cloth is substantial enough for workshop use and light enough to stay on all day under inspection lamps or in a warm hall.
  • Concealed snap placket: Behind the fabric strip no metal is exposed at the front edge. Leaning over a populated board, nothing can scrape across components or connector headers.
  • Cuff width on snap fasteners: Sleeve width adjusts at the cuff, tight for fine work with tweezers and a wrist strap, wider for handling cartons and transport racks in the store.
  • Twelve sizes from one cut: 3XS to 6XL dresses a mixed workforce from a single series. Repeat orders follow the same size logic, which saves exchanges and one-off procurement.

Construction in detail

The jacket has a notched lapel collar and closes with a concealed snap placket. In an ESD area that build is no accident, because the snaps sit protected behind the fabric strip and the front edge stays smooth. Leaning over a populated board carries no risk of a scratch or of catching on connectors.

There is a patch chest pocket on the left plus two side pockets with slanted openings for a test record, an ID card or gloves. A sweat guard protects the neck area of the collar. Sleeve width is set with snap fasteners, and the ESD logo sits on the right side pocket.

Material and fabric

155 g/m² of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn. Cotton brings moisture absorption and a pleasant hand, polyester brings dimensional stability. That mixture is why the jacket neither droops at the shoulders nor goes slack at the cuffs after many washes, which is what happens quickly to pure cotton in industrial laundering.

Compact cotton yarn leaves fewer fibre ends standing out than standard yarn. The cloth barely sheds and releases few particles, a point that counts directly in placement work and at test benches. The material is lint-free and hard-wearing, and both are noticeable in the hand of the fabric.

  • lint-free, hard-wearing compact cotton yarn
  • keeps its shape through industrial laundering

Fit and size range

Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL cover a mixed workforce without anyone handling parts in a garment that is far too wide. At placement and test benches this matters, because a sleeve that is too long drags across component tape and a cut that is too generous catches on trolleys.

Before a series order a sample set pays off, since fit is always discussed within a department. The full measurement chart is available as a PDF in the Downloads tab of this product page. The outer sizes belong in the first order as well, otherwise they end up being chased one by one later on.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

Conductivity sits in the yarn and not in a finish applied to the cloth, which is why it survives the laundry. High-grade silver yarn is processed in a method developed in house. In daily use that means a jacket in rotation for a year still does the same job it did at the start.

The measured value is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, tested at the STFI at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. The low humidity in the test climate is deliberately the unfavourable case, because dry air encourages charging. In a normally air-conditioned hall, practice is kinder than the test bench.

Cornflower blue on the shop floor

Cornflower blue is the colour nobody notices in production, and that is its strength. It survives a working day visually, it combines with high-visibility vests and safety shoes without looking busy, and it separates permanent staff cleanly from visitors in white or function holders marked in red. Anyone building a colour code across several departments takes blue as the base and uses the other shades at the edges.

Applications

  • placement and assembly lines in board production
  • order picking and component stores using ESD packaging
  • test, measurement and calibration benches in electronics
  • maintenance and machine operation within an EPA
  • plant-wide kitting of several shifts in one colour
  • training rooms and induction benches inside the EPA

Care and service life

The jacket is released for industrial laundering. The polyester share keeps shoulders, collar and front edge in shape, so garments in a laundry pool still look alike after many cycles. Dissipative behaviour remains because the conductive yarn is woven in. Temperature and programme are governed by the care label inside the garment.

Finishing and custom versions

Light embroidery or white print stands out cleanly on cornflower blue. Decoration is done in Germany, the fabric takes print up to 160 °C and suits embroidery, with a sample print recommended first. Conductive rib cuffs, extra snap fasteners or pockets, contrast versions and special colours outside the catalogue are quoted on request.

Standards and testing

Testing for dissipative behaviour and surface resistance was carried out to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at the STFI. The measured range is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. Further ESD standards are expressly not claimed as tested or certified, they only form the technical context.
