The cleanroom class per ISO 14644‑1 sets the permissible particle shedding of the wiping system. The lower the class number, the stricter the requirement: ISO 4 and 5 favour pre-wetted single-use systems and ultrasonically cut covers, while ISO 7 and 8 make reprocessable flat mops and the bucket method economical.
- ISO 4‑5 (GMP grade A/B): pre-wetted or ultrasonically cut mops, sterilised, single-use or validated reprocessing.
- ISO 6‑7 (GMP grade C): flat mop with sealed polyester cover, changed per room or stroke.

- Cleaning frequency: daily cleaning favours pre-wetted systems, infrequent deep cleaning favours the bucket method.
Cleaning frequency is the second criterion. If floors are wiped several times a day, pre-wetted systems save set-up time and guarantee constant dosing. For large areas with rare deep cleans, the bucket method with a wringer press clearly lowers consumable cost.
What matters in wiping technique and care?
Even the best mop system fails without correct technique. Wipe in overlapping parallel strokes from the cleanest to the less clean zone, always with a fresh mop face. After each stroke the cover is changed or turned so that loosened particles are not spread again.
