What must a DGUV V3 inspection label do?

DGUV Regulation 3 requires recurring testing of fixed and portable electrical equipment to DIN VDE 0701‑0702. The inspection label is the visible proof on the device: it confirms the test was passed and states when the next test falls due.

The label does not replace the test report, it complements it. The full result with measured values stays documented, while the label on the equipment gives a fast visual check of whether the interval is still valid.

Test intervals are not fixed: portable office devices are often retested every 24 months, while on construction sites it is every 3 months. The label should make the next due date readable at a glance.

How are test date, tester and interval shown?

Common inspection labels use a pointer system: months and years run around the edge and are marked by punching, a hole or a cut-out. This marks the next test permanently and smudge-free, so the print cannot fade away.

A separate write-on field for the tester name or initials saves a second label. Look for a matte, writable surface so pen or marker grips immediately.

Which material and which tamper protection?

The carrier material decides durability and forgery resistance. Polyester and vinyl films withstand cleaning, oil and UV, while plain paper only suits dry indoor use. Tamper-evident labels add a higher level of security.

  • Polyester: temperature stable from roughly -40 to 150 °C, oil and solvent resistant.
  • Vinyl: flexible for curved surfaces like cables and round housings.
  • Overlaminate: a clear protective layer over the label against abrasion.
  • VOID labels: leave a visible checkerboard pattern when removed.
Tamper-evident means a removed label cannot be reused intact. VOID films self-destruct and security cuts tear on removal, so every attempt to peel stays visible.
