Fine solder joints, component markings and hairline cracks cannot be judged reliably by eye. The magnifier lamp brings magnification and light to the assembly in one device, so inspection happens without repositioning.

The articulated arm holds any position set and is guided one-handed. Housing and arm are dissipative so the device may be used inside an EPA. It is usually fixed to the worktop with a bench clamp.
