Where electronics manufacturing and workshop work overlap, an indoor only shoe is not enough. The ankle high laced boot FLASH 8265 XP combines the ESD chain below 100 megohms to DIN EN 61340-5-1 with a metal free XP penetration resistant insert tested with the thin 3.0 mm nail under EN ISO 20345:2022.
Why this model
- Charge dissipation to DIN EN 61340-5-1. ESD footwear keeps the resistance of the person, shoe and floor chain below 10 to the power of 8 ohms, that is below 100 megohms, measured to DIN EN 61340-5-1. Charge on the wearer drains in a controlled way instead of building up and discharging into an assembly.
- Toe protection rated at 200 joules. The anatomically shaped alu-tec aluminium toe cap withstands 200 joules of impact energy and 15 kN of compression under EN ISO 20345. Aluminium weighs less than steel, moves the centre of gravity towards the middle of the foot and forms no cold bridge into the shoe.
- Metal free XP penetration resistance. The non-metallic midsole protects against sharp objects and is tested with the thin 3.0 mm nail under EN ISO 20345:2022, a stricter test than the older 4.5 mm nail. It covers the full sole area, does not conduct cold and does not trigger metal detectors.
- Cushioning built for an eight hour shift. The XR-MPU sole technology with the MPU REBOUND SYSTEM absorbs energy in the heel and returns it into the next step, which lowers the load during long standing and frequent moves between hall and test bay.
- Foot climate across the shift. The SportLine upper is an air permeable textile fabric with a hydrophobic finish, so it repels water and dries quickly. The aktiv-X functional lining regulates moisture, does not stain and resists chafing.
- Fit instead of compromise. Width 10 is the Atlas standard width and is already cut wider than usual. Wearers who need more volume find the same model in the Atlas multi-width system.
- Wear protection at the toe. The MPU overcap wraps the whole toe area and takes the abrasion caused by kneeling work and by ladder rungs.
- Orthopaedic insoles without losing approval. The model is released for orthopaedic insole fitting under DGUV rule 112-191. The marking inside the shoe is decisive.

Applications
The combination of ESD equipment, water repellent upper and penetration resistance fits wherever electronics and trades meet. Typical settings are plant assembly and commissioning, maintenance and service, switchgear building, workshops and warehouses with packaging debris on the floor, and plant engineering sites.
Standards and conformity
EN ISO 20345:2022 S3S SR, tested and certified by the notified bodies TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH, Cologne (ID 0197) and PFI Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens (ID 0193). EU type examination certificate under module B, no. 2505099-01-86. Personal protective equipment of risk category II under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. ESD marking to DIN EN 61340-5-1. Released for orthopaedic insole fitting under DGUV rule 112-191. Manufacturer is ATLAS GmbH und Co. KG, Frische Luft 159, 44319 Dortmund, Germany.
Protection class S3 means a closed heel area, energy absorption in the heel, antistatic properties, a water repellent upper, penetration resistance and a cleated outsole. Under the new EN ISO 20345:2022 the shoe carries the S3S marking because the non-metallic XP insert was tested with the thin 3.0 mm nail rather than only with the 4.5 mm nail. Antistatic under EN ISO 20345 means a through resistance between 10 to the power of 5 and 10 to the power of 9 ohms. The lower limit of 0.1 megohms set by DGUV rule 112-191 also limits the risk of current passing through the body when working at up to 230 volts.
