Moisture trapped in packaging causes corrosion and solderability problems in electronic parts. Inside a moisture barrier bag, desiccant binds the enclosed moisture and whatever diffuses in. Desco desiccant pack 204518 holds 10 g of bentonite (1/2 unit) per sachet and absorbs about 27 % of its weight in water at 50 % relative humidity and 25 °C.

Applications

For temperate climates the required amount can be estimated with W = 11 x A x R x M (W in g, A = bag area in m², R = water vapour transmission rate of the barrier film in g/m² per 24 h, M = transit and storage time in months).
