Anyone running an EPA knows the quiet gap in the concept. Flooring, footwear, wrist straps and work surfaces are covered, legwear is looked at last. Yet legwear is exactly what brushes past chair edges, mobile pedestals and table legs all day and picks up charge on the way. These women's trousers close that gap without the wearer fighting the fabric for a whole shift.

The fabric weighs 170 g/m² and blends 48 % cotton with 48 % polyester. Cotton takes up moisture and keeps the hand low in lint, polyester holds the waistband height and the leg length in shape through repeated industrial laundering. The remaining 4 % is conductive yarn, woven in as a fine grid that drains charge continuously.

Black is the colour for benches where flux, solder paste, grease or toner dust end up on clothing. Residues that would read as a stain on a light trouser stay inconspicuous here.

Your benefits

  • 170 g/m² across a full shift: The fabric weight sits below that of classic work trousers. Kneeling at a control cabinet or a low test bench builds up less heat than a heavy synthetic cloth would.
  • Surface resistance 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms: The value measured by STFI sits in the dissipative range under DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016, where charge drains reliably rather than all at once.
  • Waistband with side elastic: The waistband gives when the wearer bends over the placement line and returns afterwards. No gaping at the back, no readjusting halfway through the shift.
  • Two slash pockets: Badge, gloves or a short grounding cord stay within reach without adding bulk on the outside that would catch on trolleys and rack edges.
  • Slit fly zip that stays flat: The fastening sits flat under the placket. Nothing scratches along the edge of a soldering bench and nothing snags on a coat or smock.
  • Conductive yarn throughout: The 4 % conductive yarn runs through the entire fabric rather than a single zone. Dissipation does not depend on which part of the trousers happens to make contact.
  • Built for industrial laundering: The garment is set up for commercial processing. Seams and leg length keep their shape and conductivity survives many wash cycles.

Material and fabric

The cloth weighs 170 g/m² and consists of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn. Compact cotton is spun from a more densely twisted yarn, so fewer fibre ends stand proud of the surface. The result is a low-lint fabric that leaves fewer particles on bare boards and optical assemblies than a softly spun standard yarn.

The polyester share carries the mechanical load. It keeps waistband height, leg length and stitch line in shape even when the trousers go into commercial laundering every week. The cotton looks after skin contact, absorbs moisture and is less inclined to build static charge than an all-synthetic cloth.

  • 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester, 4 % conductive yarn
  • Fabric weight 170 g/m²
  • Low-lint surface thanks to compact yarn
  • Conductive yarn woven across the whole area

Construction in detail

The waistband is guided by elastic inserts at the sides. That absorbs movement when the wearer leans over a pick and place machine or kneels at a low test station, and it stops the band from gaping at the back. The front closes with a slit fly zip that lies flat under the placket and forms no hard edge.

Two slash pockets take a badge, gloves or a short grounding cord without adding volume on the outside. The ESD logo is worked into the garment. On a walk through the EPA it is immediately clear that these trousers belong to the protective equipment and were not brought in privately.

  • Comfort waistband with side elastic
  • Slit fly zip at the front
  • Two slash pockets
  • Integrated ESD logo

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

Dissipation does not come from a finish applied to the surface but from the yarn itself. High-grade silver yarn is worked in using a dedicated spinning and twisting process. Because the conductive yarn is part of the weave, it cannot be washed off or rubbed away.

For the operator that means a calculation without surprises. The trousers keep their conductivity after repeated washing and wearing and do not have to leave circulation after a fixed number of cycles. STFI measured the surface resistance at 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, inside the window where charge drains under control.

Fit and size range

The trousers run in continental dress sizes and are available in 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52 and 54. That covers a mixed shift without special orders. Sizes outside this band are arranged on request, as is the case of individual wearers for whom two adjacent sizes are plausible.

For an initial rollout the size chart is the reference. It is filed as a PDF in the Downloads tab of this product page and lists the measurements for each dress size. Fittings can then be limited to borderline cases, which saves a full round of try-ons when several departments are equipped at once.

Black on the shop floor

Black is the pragmatic choice wherever flux residue, solder paste, grease or toner dust reach the clothing. Such marks show up at once on a light trouser and stay unobtrusive on the black version. For rework, repair and field service that means a tidy appearance right to the end of the shift, even when a customer visit follows on the same day.

  • Placement and assembly lines in electronics manufacturing
  • Soldering and rework benches handling flux and solder paste
  • Test and repair stations with measuring equipment
  • Semiconductor and assembly stores including order picking
  • Field service work and assignments on customer sites

Care and service life

The trousers are designed for commercial industrial laundering. The polyester share holds waistband, seams and leg length in shape over many cycles, and the conductive yarn keeps its conductivity after repeated washing and wearing. The care label sewn into the garment is the binding reference for processing.

Finishing and custom versions

The fabric takes print up to 160 °C and is suitable for embroidery, with a sample print beforehand recommended. Company logo, contrast versions and additional features such as a cargo pocket with phone pocket or a double rule pocket are implemented on request, as are special colours outside the catalogue range. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

Dissipation and surface resistance were tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 by STFI. The measured range is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms at 23 °C (+/- 1) room temperature and 25 % (+/- 5) humidity. No testing or certification against further ESD standards has been carried out.
