An EPA project usually starts with flooring, wrist straps and bench mats. Trousers rarely make the list, although they rub against the chair edge and the bench all day long. That friction is where the charge builds up that later reaches the component, and around 100 volts are enough to damage a sensitive semiconductor structure for good.
These trousers deal with it in the fabric itself. 48 percent cotton and 48 percent polyester carry the construction, while 4 percent conductive yarn forms a grid across the whole panel that drains charge instead of storing it. At 170 g/m² they stay light enough for a full shift at the soldering bench and stable enough to hold their shape. Black covers what rubs off at such benches.
Your benefits
- 170 g/m² across a full shift: The weight sits between light summer workwear and heavy trade trousers. Seated assembly work does not turn into a heat trap, and the cloth survives constant leaning against the bench.
- 4 percent conductive yarn: The conductive yarn runs through the entire panel rather than along a single edge. Measured surface resistance is between 10⁵ and 10⁷ ohms.
- Comfort waistband with side elastic: The waistband gives when the technician bends over an assembly and returns afterwards. No cutting in after eight hours and no belt adjustment before a test run.
- Double rule pocket on the right: Two compartments instead of one keep a folding rule and a screwdriver apart. Nothing drops onto the populated board below when a tool is pulled out.
- Lint free compact yarn: Compact spun cotton yarn has very few protruding fibre ends. Microscope and inspection stations collect noticeably less lint on optics and assemblies.
- Built for industrial laundry: The polyester share holds seams and fit over many wash cycles. The conductivity of the woven silver yarn survives repeated washing.
Material and fabric
The cloth blends 48 percent cotton, 48 percent polyester and 4 percent conductive yarn. Cotton provides handle and moisture uptake, polyester provides the dimensional stability any work trouser needs after its twentieth wash. The cotton is compact spun and therefore has few protruding fibre ends, so the fabric hardly sheds lint and carries fewer particles into microscope and inspection areas.

- Fabric weight 170 g/m²
- Compact spun cotton yarn, low lint
- Conductive yarn woven across the entire surface
Construction in detail
The comfort waistband with side elastic follows the movement when bending, kneeling and standing up, then settles back into the same position. The front closes with a zip fly. Pocketing follows workshop practice: two side pockets for a hand, keys or a probe, one back pocket with a press stud flap, and a double rule pocket on the right. The ESD logo identifies the garment as dissipative workwear during an EPA walk through.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance
The value of ESD trousers is not decided on the day of delivery but after two years of laundry service. The silver yarn used here is processed in a method developed in house, so the conductive grid is bound into the weave itself. The dissipative effect therefore sits in the yarn and in the fabric structure, not in a finish that fades. Regular resistance checks of personnel equipment remain worthwhile all the same.
Fit and size range
These trousers run in continental waist sizes rather than letter sizes. Sizes 40 to 64 are available in steps of two, which covers the usual spread of a production team from slim to heavy build. The side elastic bridges intermediate measurements, so a bulk order does not have to hit every individual exactly. The measurements are listed in the size chart, available as a PDF under Downloads.
Black on the shop floor
Black is the pragmatic answer wherever something rubs off. Flux residue at the soldering station, grease on assembly jigs, toner in device service and cable abrasion in control cabinet work leave an immediate mark on light trousers. On black the appearance stays acceptable for several days, which lowers change frequency and laundry cost. Companies that mark teams by shirt colour keep the base uniform with black trousers.

Applications
- Soldering and rework benches handling flux and solder paste
- Board assembly and mechanical build, seated and standing
- Test and repair stations in equipment servicing
- Control cabinet build and wiring with tools carried on the body
- Semiconductor and assembly stores with dissipative flooring
Care and service life
The trousers are suitable for industrial laundry and designed for circulation through a commercial laundry service. The polyester share keeps seams, waistband and leg length in shape over many cycles, and the conductivity of the woven silver yarn survives repeated washing. Exact care instructions are given on the sewn in label.
Finishing and custom versions
The trousers are suitable for embroidery and can be printed up to 160 °C, with a sample print recommended beforehand. A cargo pocket with a mobile phone compartment, a contrast version and further equipment details are made to order on request, as are colours outside the catalogue range. Ask us for a quotation.
Standards and testing
The trousers passed testing for dissipation and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at STFI. The measured value is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms in a test climate of 23 (+/- 1) °C room temperature and 25 (+/- 5) percent relative humidity. No testing or certification against further ESD standards has taken place so far, and none is claimed here.
