Part-turn actuators
Pneumatic drives
Festo part-turn actuators convert compressed air into defined rotary motion, covering swing angles of 90°, 180°, 240° and 270°. The DSM series (bore diameters 6-25 mm) operates on a dual-rack-and-pinion principle, delivering consistent torque for gripper rotation, flap actuation and transfer tasks. The DSL swing-linear unit additionally combines rotary and linear motion within a single actuator.
Adjustable end-position cushioning and optional end buffers allow precise angle setting. Flange options FF and FW enable direct connection to ISO 15552 mounting flanges or pivot-arm brackets. Sensor groove compatibility with SMEO/SME proximity switches permits end-position detection without modification.
Key selection parameters are the required swing angle, the needed torque and the mounting orientation. The DSM series covers most standard applications. For combined swing-and-lift functions, the DSL unit is the appropriate choice. Flange option FF (front flange to ISO 15552) or FW (angle bracket) determines the mounting method. For applications with high shaft loads, check the shaft load capacity in the manufacturer's datasheet.
Typical applications: Rotation of grippers and workpiece carriers in assembly automation, actuation of butterfly valves and valve positioners in process plants, transfer stations in conveyor systems, flap drives in packaging machines, and rotary table indexing in small pitch-circle applications.
