Shock absorber
Pneumatic drives
Festo shock absorbers of the YSR series are hydraulic end-position dampers for pneumatic actuators and transfer systems. The range covers bore diameters of 4 to 32 mm with stroke capacities of 4 to 60 mm, absorbing kinetic energy through oil metering to prevent hard end stops and structure-borne noise in machinery. The DYHR oil-brake cylinders (Ø 16-32 mm) additionally provide an integrated damping function within the cylinder body itself.
All YSR shock absorbers feature adjustable throttle characteristics and can be tuned to the specific impact energy of load and actuator. The DYEF-M22-Y1F is an electrically released variant for applications requiring controlled damping engagement. These shock absorbers are typically used together with DFSP stopper cylinders or as external end-position dampers for standard cylinders.
Shock absorber selection is based on the kinetic energy to be absorbed (E = m*v²/2) and the impact velocity. The shock absorber stroke must be sufficient to dissipate the energy within the available braking distance. For variable loads and speeds, the adjustable YSR variant is preferred. For constant applications with a defined mass, a fixed size without adjustment may suffice. For very short installation spaces, DYHR oil-brake cylinders are recommended since cylinder and damper are combined in one unit.
Typical applications: End-position cushioning of rotary and linear actuators in assembly automation, damping of stop events on roller-conveyor transfer systems, protection of tool holders and grippers against overload, vibration reduction in fast-cycling handling systems, and end-position damping at conveyor station stops.
