When heat reaches a through-hole lead, a plug contact or a stranded wire too slowly, the usual cause is too little contact area. This cartridge tip works with a chisel face 4.2 mm wide and 1.3 mm thick, which transfers considerably more heat than the common 1.6 mm and 2.4 mm shapes while still tracking a medium sized pad accurately.

What the geometry does on the bench

• The 4.2 mm working width lies flat across pad and lead, so wetting starts sooner than with a narrow tip.
• A chisel thickness of 1.3 mm carries the heat reserve for medium demand without becoming oversized on ordinary board pads.
• Rated in the 200 W class, so there is headroom for recovery even when joints follow each other closely.
• Tip and heater form one cartridge, so heat crosses no plug connection. Quick quotes roughly 3 seconds from room temperature to 300 °C for the range, measured on the 1.6 mm tip.
• The thermocouple sits in the tip rather than at the heater, so the control loop reacts to the real load.
• An onboard chip carries the individual calibration value, keeping the station reading comparable after a tip change.

Application, scope of delivery and compatibility

Typical jobs are through-hole components, pin headers, cable terminations, stranded wire, solder lugs and medium sized pads in service, assembly, repair and rework. For closely spaced fine pitch pads the conical TSS10C-B is the better choice, for heavy joints the 5.0 mm chisel TSS10C-5D. The tip ships as a single cartridge and fits the Quick TS10 station only.
