In SMD rework the shape of the working face decides how fast a joint reflows and how little heat the surrounding area takes. The SMTC-5174 uses a hoof-shaped face 1.14 mm wide and 16.51 mm long that carries a small solder reservoir and releases it cleanly along a row of leads. It fits the MX-H1-AVA and MX-RM3E hand pieces of the Metcal MX series.
