Rework tips SMTC
Soldering and desoldering tips
SMTC series rework tips are designed for PCB rework using the Metcal MX system. The range covers three geometry classes: tunnel tips for SOIC packages (SOIC-8 to SOIC-28), quad tips for PLCC and QFP components (PLCC-28, PLCC-44, VQFP-100, QFP-144) and blade/hoof tips for chip components from 0402/0603 to 1812. Dual-number variants (e.g. SMTC-004 and SMTC-104) differ by temperature series but share the same geometry.
| SMTC number | Type | Target package |
|---|---|---|
| SMTC-001 | Standard | Chip 0805 |
| SMTC-002 | Standard | Chip 1206/1210 |
| SMTC-003 | Standard | Chip 1812 |
| SMTC-004 / SMTC-104 | Tunnel | SOIC-8 |
| SMTC-006 / SMTC-1142 | Tunnel | SOIC-14/16 |
| SMTC-007 / SMTC-107 | Tunnel | SOIC-28 |
| SMTC-010 / SMTC-110 | Tunnel | SOIC-20 |
| SMTC-114 | Quad | PLCC-44 |
| SMTC-1118 | Quad | VQFP-100 |
| SMTC-1122 | Quad | QFP-144 |
| SMTC-060/-061/-062 | Long blade | IC pin rows 10/15.75/22 mm |
| SMTC-088 / SMTC-096 | Standard | Chip 0402/0603/0805 and 0402/0603 |
Typical applications: SMD rework in SMT volume production for placement errors or component defects, rework on SOIC, PLCC and QFP packages per IPC-7711/7721, component replacement in electronics service workshops and after-sales repair centres, and prototype rework in development labs with frequently changing component types.
