Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is the sudden unwanted flow of electricity between two electrically charged objects. ESD can cause a number of adverse effects, as well as permanent damage, to electronic components. The body and stand of the microscope are coated with a special static dissipative paint that eliminates harmful electrostatic discharges, making the microscopes suitable for all static sensitive environments.
