Drag soldering pin rows, clearing solder bridges or cleaning pads needs a blade rather than a point. The SMC-6KN0048S carries a knife blade 4.83 mm long and 2.03 mm wide and works at a gentle 330 °C in the 600 series.

Cartridge series code

The first digit after the hyphen gives the temperature series: 6 for 330 °C, 7 for 390 °C, 8 for 440 °C and 9 for 470 °C. Metcal recommends the 700 series for most applications. The 600 series suits low thermal load and low temperatures, the 800 and 900 series high temperatures and high heat demand.
