Anyone who works in the test area or in assembly and visits customers in between does not want a bulky work boot. The CX 565 is a low shoe from the ATLAS City Style series, keeps the electrical resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1 below 100 MOhm and still carries full class S1P: a steel toe cap rated for 200 joules and 15 kN plus a penetration-resistant stainless steel midsole.

What the shoe delivers

  • The charge leaves through the shoe, not through the component. Measured by the person shoe floor method of DIN EN 61340-5-1, the electrical resistance stays below 100 MOhm. A wearer who picks up a charge on the way to the machine passes it to the floor through the sole instead of discharging it into the assembly. The lower limit of 100 kOhm from DGUV rule 112-191 is maintained, so the limited protection against dangerous electric shock when working up to 230 V is not lost.
  • Protection class S1P in plain words. S1 to EN ISO 20345 means a toe cap, a closed heel area that absorbs energy and an antistatic build. The P adds penetration resistance. A water-repellent upper is not included, so the shoe belongs in dry indoor areas. The SRC slip rating covers ceramic tile with detergent and steel with glycerol.
  • Steel cap with tested figures. The anatomically shaped steel cap protects the toe area against an impact of at least 200 joules and a compression load of at least 15 kN to EN ISO 20345. That is roughly the impact of a 20 kilogram load falling from one metre.
  • Penetration resistance made of stainless steel. The penetration-resistant midsole is made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, matched to the fit of the last and foamed into the midsole material. It therefore sits as part of the sole construction rather than as a foreign body inside the shoe.
  • Foot climate held near 32 degrees. The SportLine upper is an air-permeable textile fabric, hydrophobic and quick drying. Together with the thermoregulating aktiv-X functional lining and the Klima Komfort insole it forms the clima-stream concept, which keeps the inside of the shoe close to the comfort temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. A deviation of one or two degrees already shows up as hot or cold feet.
  • City Style sole for hard floors and office parquet. The City Style sole system combines a responsive MPU midsole with a cleated outsole, and biomechanically placed flex notches in the forefoot balance stability against natural roll-off. The 8 mm heel and the heel damping absorb the impact forces. The insole with heel cushioning is replaceable.
  • Width 10, the standard width. Every ATLAS safety shoe in width 10 is built on a broad, foot-friendly last. Anyone who needs more room across the ball of the foot gets the same model from the multi-width system in width 12 and, for some models, in special widths 13 and 14.

Areas of use

Electronics manufacturing and PCB assembly, EPA zones to DIN EN 61340-5-1, test areas, laboratories and metrology, indoor service and maintenance work, warehousing and order picking, and the walk from production into the office. Without a water-repellent upper the shoe is not intended for permanently wet areas or outdoor use.

Standards and conformity

ATLAS lists the shoe as S1P with SRC slip resistance, the 2012 edition of the standard comes from the supplier data sheet. As personal protective equipment it falls under risk category 2 of PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. ESD suitability is not a requirement of the footwear standard but follows DIN EN 61340-5-1.

EN ISO 20345 requires an electrical resistance between 100 kOhm and 1000 MOhm for every safety shoe. ESD shoes narrow that window at the top to 100 MOhm and thereby protect the product during manufacturing. The shoe is also approved for orthopaedic insoles under DGUV rule 112-191, with the marking inside the shoe being decisive.
