A rework bench is unforgiving. Anyone working with hot air, solder paste and flux leans over the board, brushes the mat with a forearm and reaches for tweezers between two operations. Those movements generate triboelectric charge, and roughly 100 volts are already enough to damage a sensitive semiconductor structure beyond repair.

This jacket is the part of the EPA concept that is worn on the body. Conductive yarn runs through the weave and drains charge across the surface. Black earns its place wherever flux, solder paste, grease, toner and adhesive residue belong to the routine and a light coloured coat stops looking presentable after two shifts. Twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL dress a whole team.

Your benefits

  • Surface resistance 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms: Tested by STFI to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. Exactly the range an EPA audit expects to see.
  • 155 g/m² compact cotton yarn: 48 % cotton and 48 % polyester give a fabric that stays wearable next to a fume extractor for a full shift and still holds its shape.
  • Low lint under the microscope: Compact cotton sheds very few particles. Under a stereo microscope every stray fibre on a populated board shows up, and here the view stays clean.
  • Sleeve width set by press stud: The long sleeves close tighter at the cuff end. At a desoldering station that keeps fabric clear of the iron, the flux bottle and the component tray.
  • Concealed press stud placket: The stud placket sits under a fabric flap. No exposed metal can scratch a housing edge, a printed board or a painted front panel during handling.
  • Black stays customer ready: Service engineers drive from the repair bench straight to a customer site. Flux splashes and grease marks barely read on black, on white at once.

Fabric and material

The fabric combines 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn at 155 g/m². The base is lint free, hard wearing compact cotton yarn with a polyester blend. Polyester keeps the shape stable through many wash cycles, and the conductive yarn is part of the woven surface, not a coating that can wear away.

Construction in detail

The jacket has a lapel collar, a patch chest pocket on the left and two side pockets with slanted openings, which are easier to reach when seated at a test bench than straight ones. A sweat guard runs across the neck and side bust darts shape the women's cut.

  • Chest pocket on the left, two side pockets with slanted openings
  • Long sleeves with press studs to adjust sleeve width
  • ESD logo on the right side pocket

Lasting dissipation

The conductive yarn keeps its conductivity through repeated washing and wear because it is woven in rather than applied on top. High grade silver yarn is processed into the weave in a dedicated spinning method, which anchors dissipation in the fabric itself and keeps it there through the laundry cycle.

Fit and range of options

The women's cut with side bust darts and the adjustable sleeve width cover different builds without leaving surplus fabric at the wrist. Available are 3XS, 2XS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL and 6XL. That covers a full team out of a single size logic, without a special order. The measurement chart is a PDF in the Downloads tab.

Why black at this bench

Black belongs where flux, solder paste, grease, toner and adhesive residue are part of daily work. A dark surface also gives camera and microscope workstations a calm background, while coloured marker vests for visitors or auditors stay clearly readable over the jacket.

  • Repair and test stations in electronic assembly
  • Field service work with direct customer contact
  • Camera and microscope stations in optical inspection
  • Semiconductor and assembly stores inside an EPA

Care and service life

The jacket is made for industrial laundry and keeps its shape over many cycles. The conductive yarn is woven in, so it does not lose its effect after the first few washes. For washing method and temperature the care label inside the garment is binding.

Finishing and custom versions

Printable up to 160 °C and suitable for embroidery, with a sample print recommended first. Finishing is carried out in Germany. Company logos, conductive rib cuffs, extra press studs or pockets and contrast versions are arranged on request, as are colours outside the catalogue. Ask us for a quotation.

Standards and testing

Dissipation and surface resistance were tested to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 by the STFI test institute. The measured range is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms at 23 (+/-1) °C room temperature and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. No testing to further ESD standards has taken place.
