In a cleanroom antechamber, in final inspection and anywhere a customer walks along, workwear shapes the impression a production line leaves behind. White makes no compromise. An oil mark, a splash of flux or a fingerprint stays visible, and that is precisely why these areas work in light colours.

The jacket is made of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn at a fabric weight of 155 g/m². Compact cotton yarn provides the lint-free surface, the polyester share the dimensional stability through many industrial wash cycles. The conductive yarn is part of the weave, not a coating that gives up over time.

At the STFI institute a surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms was measured to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. For personnel-related dissipation inside an EPA that is the figure that counts.

Your benefits

  • Contamination shows immediately: On white cloth an oil film or flux residue is obvious at first glance. Staff working in a cleanroom antechamber can change the jacket before particles travel any further.
  • Bright surface under inspection light: At microscope and visual inspection stations a pale sleeve throws stray light back into the work area instead of swallowing it. Small parts stand out better against a light background.
  • 155 g/m², never stifling: The fabric weight is chosen so the jacket can be worn over ordinary clothing without trapping heat under inspection lamps and fume extraction arms.
  • Concealed snap placket: The snaps disappear behind the placket. No metal is left along the front edge to mark a glass panel, a display module or a painted front.
  • Sleeve width to suit the task: Snap fasteners at the cuff change the width. Set close to the wrist, the sleeve stays clear of tweezers, gloves and the wrist strap contact area.
  • Visible ESD logo: On the right side pocket the logo shows during a plant tour or a customer visit that this zone works in ESD clothing. It saves questions during an audit.
  • 3XS to 6XL available: Twelve sizes also cover temporary staff and visitors who need kitting out at short notice. A set of loan jackets in three sizes covers most guided tours.

Material and fabric

48 % cotton, 48 % polyester, 4 % conductive yarn at 155 g/m². The split brings together two properties that usually rule each other out. Cotton absorbs moisture and sits comfortably against the skin, while polyester makes sure the jacket keeps its shape after many washes and the front edge still hangs straight.

Compact cotton yarn is spun more tightly, so fewer fibre ends protrude. The cloth does not shed and therefore carries few particles into the room. Near cleanrooms and at optical inspection benches that is the practical gain, because every fibre released eventually lands on a component or on a lens.

  • fabric weight 155 g/m²
  • 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester, 4 % conductive yarn
  • lint-free compact cotton yarn
  • conductivity in the yarn rather than in a coating
  • suitable for industrial laundering

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

The difference between a finished garment and one woven with conductive yarn only shows in the second year of service. An applied finish washes out, a yarn woven into the cloth does not. High-grade silver yarn is processed in a method developed in house. For a purchasing department that means a predictable service life instead of repeat measurements with an uncertain outcome.

The measured surface resistance is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, recorded at the STFI at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. White workwear goes into the laundry more often than dark clothing simply because it shows dirt. With this colour, conductivity that sits in the yarn is therefore not a side note.

Construction in detail

Notched lapel collar, concealed snap placket, sweat guard at the neck. The garment is cut as workwear rather than as a lab coat. There is a patch chest pocket on the left plus two side pockets with slanted openings. The slant is not a styling detail, it is the reason the hand reaches the pocket while seated at a bench without twisting the shoulder.

Sleeve width is set with snap fasteners. Anyone working with a wrist strap pulls the sleeve in so that the contact area and the band stay clear, and the same sleeve opens up again for picking parts in the store. The ESD logo is placed on the right side pocket and stays in view while the jacket is worn.

  • notched lapel collar, sweat guard at the neck
  • concealed snap placket with no exposed metal
  • patch chest pocket on the left
  • two side pockets with slanted openings
  • sleeve width adjustable by snap fasteners
  • ESD logo on the right side pocket

Fit and size range

Available in twelve sizes from 3XS to 6XL. White jackets often double as visitor and loan clothing, and for that a plant needs a size span that works without reordering at short notice. The measurement chart with all body dimensions is available as a PDF in the Downloads tab of this page.

White as a working colour

White is the colour of the controlled zone. It shows every mark, it separates visually from the darker areas of a plant, and it makes area boundaries readable without extra signage. Where customers are guided through production or an auditor walks along, a clean light jacket has an immediate effect. The price is a shorter wearing cycle, which stays calculable with a garment built for industrial laundering.

Applications

  • antechambers and gowning areas ahead of a cleanroom
  • visual and final inspection under microscope or inspection lamp
  • quality assurance, metrology rooms and calibration
  • customer visits, audits and guided tours through production
  • loan and visitor clothing at the EPA entrance
  • assembly of sensitive boards and optical components

Care and service life

White workwear goes to the laundry more often than dark clothing. The jacket is built for industrial laundering, and the polyester share keeps collar and front edge in shape through the process. Conductivity remains over many wash cycles because it sits in the yarn. The valid washing instructions are printed on the care label inside the garment.

Finishing and custom versions

Embroidery and printing are done in Germany. The fabric takes print up to 160 °C and can be embroidered, with a sample print recommended first. A company logo carries particularly well on a white jacket. Conductive rib cuffs, additional snap fasteners or pockets, contrast versions and special colours outside the catalogue are available on request.

Standards and testing

Testing for dissipative behaviour and surface resistance followed DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 at the STFI institute. The result is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, determined at 23 (+/-1) °C and 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. Further ESD standards are not the subject of any test or certification for this article.
