Buying workwear for a whole plant is rarely about single garments. It is about a colour that matches existing stock, a cut that works for women and men alike, and items that still look like a set after two years of commercial laundering. Cornflower blue has been the standard shop floor colour for decades for exactly those reasons.
This short sleeve ladies jacket brings that colour into the EPA. It is made of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn at 155 g/m². The conductive yarn sits as a grid inside the weave and lets charge drain away from the wearer instead of building until it discharges into a component.
STFI measured a surface resistance of 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, recorded at 25 % relative humidity, meaning under dry and therefore unfavourable conditions.
Your benefits
- Forgiving with everyday soiling: Metal debris, cardboard dust and hand marks show less on cornflower blue than on light fabric and are not as invisible as on black. That makes a sensible change interval possible to plan.
- Colour marks the area: Where cornflower blue is the standard on the shop floor, visitors or contractors in a different colour are spotted immediately. Access control inside the EPA gets easier without extra badges.
- 4 % conductive yarn throughout: The conductive thread does not stop at the front panel. Sleeves, back and pocket bags share the same weave, so dissipation does not depend on how the wearer happens to be standing.
- 155 g/m² in warm halls: The weight is that of a light summer shirt. Worn over a blouse it adds no noticeable heat in summer, so there is less sweating along a placement line during a full shift.
- Concealed snap placket: No bare metal on the front. Leaning over a carrier pallet or an open enclosure, nothing scratches and nothing catches on an assembly being moved.
- Reactive dye with staying power: The dye is chemically bonded to the cotton fibre. Reorders placed much later still match the jackets already in circulation instead of standing out as a newer shade.
- Low lint on the line: Compact spun yarn releases very few fibres. In placement work that keeps particles away from feeders, nozzles and the boards passing through the machine.
Fabric and material
The base is a fabric of 48 % cotton, 48 % polyester and 4 % conductive yarn at 155 g/m². The cotton is compact spun, which binds protruding fibre ends and makes the cloth shed noticeably less than a plain ring spun yarn would. Polyester provides the shape retention without which the collar would go wavy somewhere around the twentieth wash.
For conductivity we process high grade silver yarn in a method developed in house. What decides the matter in daily use is the construction: the conductive thread is part of the weave rather than a treatment sitting on the surface.

Dissipation across many wash cycles
The value of an ESD jacket is not measured when it is new but by what remains after a year of commercial laundering. Because the conductive thread is woven in, the function does not disappear along with a worn off coating. The conductive yarn retains its conductivity through repeated washing and wear.
For purchasing that means a predictable service life. If clothing is spot checked as part of EPA routine, the recorded value does not drift away with every wash, and there is no need to replace garments earlier than necessary just to stay on the safe side.
Construction in detail
The lapel collar is cut open and gives the jacket a line that also works outside the production hall. An extra layer of fabric at the nape acts as a sweat guard, and bust darts at the sides shape the front panels so the jacket stays closed when the wearer leans forward. The front placket is concealed, with the snap fasteners sitting under the fabric.
For storage the jacket offers a patch chest pocket on the left plus two side pockets with slanted openings. Slanted openings are not a catalogue detail: they work while standing with the arm bent, whereas a horizontal opening folds shut in the same position. The ESD logo is placed visibly on the right side pocket.

Cornflower blue on the shop floor
Cornflower blue sits between the extremes. It forgives more than white but conceals less than black, so heavy soiling still registers and a change of garment is not left to chance. In assembly, stores and placement work that is the practical middle ground, and the colour matches existing trousers and coats from the same stock.
It also serves as an ordering feature. If permanent staff wear cornflower blue while visitors, trainees or contractors are issued a different colour, a supervisor can tell from a distance who has been instructed for EPA work and who has not. In a hall where several teams share the same aisles, that saves a good deal of asking.
Fit and size range
Twelve sizes are available, from 3XS to 6XL. The pattern is a women's cut with bust darts rather than a scaled down men's jacket, which is most noticeable when the front placket is closed. Large sizes up to 6XL are part of the standard range. Even smaller quantities ship directly from our warehouse. Pattern work, sampling, sewing and packing all happen at one site and therefore under continuous control.

Care and service life
The jacket is suitable for commercial industrial laundering and designed for a long service life. The polyester share secures shape retention in collar and shoulder, and reactive dyeing keeps the cornflower shade stable across many cycles. The woven-in yarn retains its conductivity through repeated washing. The care label is binding.
Finishing and custom versions
Printable up to 160 °C and suitable for embroidery, with a sample print recommended beforehand. Light embroidery threads and white prints stand out clearly against cornflower blue, for department codes or names. Standards and testing
Testing for dissipative behaviour and surface resistance to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016 was carried out by STFI and passed with 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms. The test climate was 23 (+/-1) °C at 25 (+/-5) % relative humidity. No testing or certification against further ESD standards has taken place so far, and none is claimed for this product.
