The usual route to ESD trousers runs through a comparison with whatever was worn before. Ordinary work trousers cost less but do not drain charge, so inside an EPA they have to be compensated by other grounding measures. These trousers bring the dissipation with them in the fabric.

That job is done by 4 percent conductive yarn in a blend of 48 percent cotton and 48 percent polyester. Surface resistance was determined at STFI as 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms. A weight of 170 g/m² is heavy enough to hold the shape and light enough not to press over an eight hour shift.

Cornflower blue is the classic works colour for assembly and board population. It has stood for manufacturing for decades, looks neither clinical nor casual and forgives the traces of a normal working day.

• Special colours on request: Companies running their own house colour can have it made on request. For everyday requirements cornflower blue is a catalogue colour available from stock.

Material and fabric

The cloth is lint free compact cotton yarn with a polyester blend, precisely 48 to 48 percent, plus 4 percent conductive yarn. Cotton takes up moisture and does not feel cold against the skin, polyester keeps leg length and waistband stable across the service life. Compact cotton is also less prone to odour than pure synthetic fabrics.

Lasting dissipation and wash resistance

In practice dissipative clothing is retired not because it wears out but because the effect fades. High grade silver yarn is worked into the weave through a process developed in house, so the conductive grid is part of the fabric, and conductivity is retained after repeated washing and wearing. Industrial laundry is part of the design brief.

Construction in detail

The comfort waistband with side elastic absorbs movement without any need to retighten the belt. The front closes with a zip fly. Two side pockets at the front, one back pocket with a press stud flap and a double rule pocket on the right give a layout meant for assembly and wiring work. The ESD logo identifies the garment as part of the dissipative outfit.

Fit and size range

In cornflower blue the trousers are available in continental waist sizes 38 to 64, that is fourteen steps. There are no letter sizes for this model, measurement follows waist width. The size chart is provided as a PDF in the downloads tab of this page and helps with a collective order.

Cornflower blue on the shop floor

Cornflower blue sits in the brightness range where coarse soiling still shows while fine abrasion does not dominate the picture straight away. For board population, mechanical assembly and goods receipt that is a sound compromise between white and black. As an established works colour it also matches existing clothing in other departments, which keeps the move to ESD outfits visually unobtrusive.

Care and service life

The trousers are suitable for industrial laundry and designed for the laundry cycle of a manufacturing site. The polyester share keeps waistband, seams and leg length dimensionally accurate over many cycles, and the conductivity of the woven silver yarn is retained. The sewn in care label is the binding reference.

Finishing and custom versions

The trousers are suitable for embroidery and printable up to 160 °C, with a sample print recommended beforehand. A cargo pocket with a mobile phone compartment, a contrast version and further selectable items are made to order on request, as are other colours and finishes outside the catalogue. Standards and testing

Dissipation and surface resistance were successfully tested at STFI to DIN EN 61340-5-1:2016. The measured value is 10⁵ to 10⁷ ohms, the test climate 23 (+/- 1) °C and 25 (+/- 5) percent relative humidity. No certification against any further ESD standards exists so far, and none is claimed here.
